Your thoughts on the Dornier DO 335A-1 Pfeil

I don't have the Dornier DO 335A-1 Pfeil yet (yes, I am in a Luftwaffe buying mood/mode at the moment) but would like to hear your opinions if you own one? Thanks again
for any feedback, guys!

It's okay -- "for an IXO", one of their better efforts I think. Though, I'm by no means an expert on the plane.

That said, I'm open to trading mine if you've got anything to get rid of

What would you be looking for if I may ask? Please 'PM' me. Thanks!

Re: Your thoughts on the Dornier DO 335A-1 Pfeil

I have one Fly (which, oddly enough, I bought from PappyB) and I don't think it looks bad at all. I believe there were comments made by members more learned in aspects of its paint scheme, but overall I am pleased with it. The only complaint I have, minor at that, is that the closed landing gear doors on my model aren't very secure and frequently fall from the model. I ended up securing them in place with an ultra-small piece of transparent tape. I have not displayed it gear down, but I have heard it's a bit wobbly - a trait shared by many IXO models.

I don't think you would regret adding one to your collection - especially since it is the only one in die cast at the moment.

I like Luftwaffe anything and so I bought the Hs129 and the Dornier but agree that it does not have much wow factor quality wise. It's different and the pusher prop thing is neat I guess. Worth $30? You have to decide.

FlyXwire,
Hey there.

Everyone above has made excellent points. Basically it comes down to, how much do you want to have one of these birds in your hanger? No one else will ever make them as the available schemes are limited. (If you need 6 for Hobby Master or Corgi to break even and there were only one or two of these planes ever built, it ain't gonna happen.)

If you are looking for finely crafted detail, forget it. It's and IXO. However, if you are not going to measure everyline and just want something that will add a unique look to your field, get it.

Anything for a weird life.

Re: Your thoughts on the Dornier DO 335A-1 Pfeil

I bought this one over a year ago and like it overall besides some of the typical "IXO" problems. Looks nice to my other 2 plastic ones I build some years ago (including a 2 seater-night fighter version with radar) in 1/72 scale too. WHO ELSE in the die-cast world is gonna make it anyway???

The colours are wrong is the major problem! Of course, there's no swazi on the tail, and you'll need to use glue to hold theundercarriage in place ifyou want to display it wheels down.

Apart from those issues, it's not a bad representation of the real thing. And it's a nice weighty piece of metal!

Re: Your thoughts on the Dornier DO 335A-1 Pfeil

Personally, I like it and don't believe the colours are excessively off the mark. My example also fitted together well and had a better finish than a number of AA Corgi aircraft that I've bought in the past. A good piece of diecast that is a worthy addition to any collection.
