Question How can we fix the bad IXO nose jobs???

I'm sure many of us have IXOs that fill the gap but at the same time are a bit, well niggley, they just get under the skin! I've got a Fiat G55 which was my first IXO through a swap for a FOV Stuka. Thing is, it's got the worst nose job on any diecast I've seen! That prop spinner is just plain wrong.

I was looking for a fix and thought that the best place to start was planes with the same/similar engine like the Bf109E/F/G and the Ki61 Tony. I figured take the prop for another diecast model and try it for size. Using a Dragon 109E prop may be the solution. What do you guys think?

I haven't gone the way of the plastic kit because out here they're just too pricey. Diecast makes more sense for me.

PS I don't have a Bf109E but tried the 109G prop and it fits but the profile is not quite right, a whole lot better that the original though.

Re: How can we fix the bad IXO nose jobs???

As the G-55 used a licenced DB605 engine a prop and spinner off a late Me109 or 110 should work fine, however I suspect IXO didn't exactly go to the effort of checking the plans!

I think for a quick fix the 109G prop (i used one from a Dragon for a while) is about the best you are going to do.

Got fed up with this solution after a while and decided to modify a Corgi mossie prop. Needed a bit of filling, filing and sanding and the prop blades need shifting but now looks about right now.

P51D, I'm all thumbs, there's no way I could pull that off. I'd like to see your finished handywork. I've checked the Dragon 109G prop and it looks miles better. I was just contemplating fishing out the IXO Bf110 to check its props on the G55. Don't think the Macchi 205 will work but I'll have look. Eerrrm, pics would be very welcome indeed.

Although the mods went well I have to confess this modelling is new to me and I have packed the model away for now (loft) until i sort out the bits I need for my new air compressor/air brush.

Going away for a week but can dig out that prop when I get back if you like and take a pic.

Don't think you will find the Macchi 205 prop will work very well (have the IXO and kit props and both look wrong and too small on this aircraft)

Cool Re: How can we fix the bad IXO nose jobs???

I agree that the prop on the 205 looks too small but I wanted to give it a shot. I didn't get round to checking the Bf110 one but will do it over the weekend and report back.

I agree that the 205 prop may be too small but I'll just check for fit anyway. I haven't been able to do the Bf110 but should get around to it over the weekend. I'll what else way work while I'm at it.

Unhappy Re: How can we fix the bad IXO nose jobs???

Well I got out about half a dozen IXOs to see if anything else would come close to the Dragon 109G solution. I tried the Bf 110, He 219, Do 335, Mc 205, Defiant, Oscar and Tony. None even came close! What's more, I discovered that the Ki 61 prop is actually too small!
