Thumbs up IXO F2A Buffalo

I just returned from three months in the months in the sun and realized that I had the mother lode of diecasat models waiting for me: eight IXOs; one Corgi (Beamont Typhoon); and one Century Wings, (F-14A, VF-154, Black Knights NF 100). Needless to say, Century wins hands down in the quality contest.

With that in mind I decided to compare some of the newest additions in my collection
to the F-14A, and the first model randomly picked was the IXO Brewster F2A Buffalo. Unfortunately for the F2A it got off to a bad start: the port rudder fell off when I started to separate the plastic forms. I never touched the rudder; it just became unglued.

The weight of this tiny fighter is impressive; it has a good solid heft, with little or no plastic in evidence. The magnifying glass disclosed no glaring seams, particularly at the wing root, always a source of complaints. The "Kicking Mule" decal seems out of place; pad printing might have pulled it off. The scorihg comes off real well; not too heavy and compares favorably with scoring on the F-14A. I'm not a great judge of cammo schemes, but the livery on this bird looks damn good to me. I'm going to fly this Buffalo, since the u/c looks a little weak kneed to me. Better safe than sorry.

Other than the ungluing of the port rudder, which is easily fixed, this F2A by IXO is a little gem. It's not a Century Wings F-14A, but what else is, and this IXO issue certainly passes my keeper test. 8 out of 10.

Yes, please do stalag. I mistakenly though that HM was bringing out their Buffalo in 1/72 so I didn't pay the IXO much mind. Now it deserves another look.

Great! Thank you andlooking forward to seeing them when you have time. I was kinda looking at HM 1/48 scale, but only collect 1/72 scale.

Re: IXO F2A Buffalo

If I buy one. it's undergoing a major repaint. Don't want a Finnish Buffalo, but I'd love an early USMC version from Midway. Might have to do another customization job. Oh fun!

Talking Re: IXO F2A Buffalo

Couldn't wait for your pics mate, got a call from Johannesburg this morning from my supplier of IXOs advising that the November shipment has landed. A little late I have to say. Regardless, I've ordered the Buffalo, Tony, Defiant and Salamander. Been waiting for that Tony a very, very long time now! Wouldn't have got the Buffalo had I not picked up that the Hobby Master one is in 1/48.

So what's the ditty on the customization for your Buffalo, Trap? Any pics you wanna share with us?

Re: IXO F2A Buffalo

Got my IXO Buffalo earlier this week and am quite pleased with it. Fairly hefty bit of diecast. Pity it doesn't have the Finnish insignia though.
