IXO I-16 vs. Model Power I-16

These 2 seem to have the same paint scheme and livery, and the scale is almost the same (1/72 vs. 1/75). Anyone have both and able to compare detail, quality and size?

Re: IXO I-16 vs. Model Power I-16

I have both.

I cannot talk of accuracy but the IXO one is by far more detailed. Ixo has a better stand, darker color. I think "For Stallin is written on its side" While the model powers says...I forget.

I love that ixo, my fovourite of them all.

I love Polikarpov

Re: IXO I-16 vs. Model Power I-16

I also have both and much prefer the IXO version. It's about 1/4 inch bigger all the way around, and as already mentioned, better detailed. It also has the gear down option, which the MM version does not. Although I had to wait a year and a half from my original pre-order to get it, I'm glad I did. My Soviet section of a/c is in need of all the members it can get. IMHO, speaking of IXO Russian a/c, the LA-7 looks really nice next to the I-16, kinda the beginning and the end of Soviet WWII fighters.

Re: IXO I-16 vs. Model Power I-16

My IXO Polikarpov is attrocious - IMO one of the worst IXO's released. That being said, it is the only true 1:72 version on the market, so it stays in the collection until someone else makes a better version. (Wishful thinking I know ;-)

Spinnaker,
Hey there.

Why exactly do you dislike the I-16? I thought I recalled seeing posts to the effect that it ober of their better birds? (Then again, it could have just been an acid flashback.....)

Re: IXO I-16 vs. Model Power I-16

I have both. The IXO version is, by far, the better of the two. But, that being said, neither one is very good, IMHO.
What we need is an I-16 in 1/48. HM, please hurry!!!!!

Re: IXO I-16 vs. Model Power I-16

I also have both the IXO and Model Power versions of the I-16. While both have issues I feel that IXO is probably the worst. For example, IXO's canopy is 35-40% too large and the lettering on the sides of the plane is also outsized. Both of these are typical of IXO's crank 'em out as speedily and cheaply as possible mentality. Since I usually "correct" such errors my IXO I-16 now has a more realistic canopy, but if you aren't so inclined you should wait for Hobby Master's 1:48 scale version due out later this year. Unlike IXO' which is using molds designed for a publisher's promotion several years ago, Hobby Master is fielding a serious line of diecast product in direct competition with the big guys-Corgi and Dragon.

Re: IXO I-16 vs. Model Power I-16

I may have struck one of those notorious "Friday afternoon" models? The worst part is the huge gap in seam where the wing meets the fuselage on the starboard side. The windshield looks all wrong, and the inked panels-lines on the underside a totally overdone.

Apart from that i suppose it's not too bad ;-)

Re: IXO I-16 vs. Model Power I-16

Spinnaker,
Nah, I'm thinking you are right. Some other folks have posted here as well and none of them have anything exciting to say about the bird. Unless someone convinces me otherwise, I'm going to sum up the raves that I remember to excitment over just getting one of these at all.

Re: IXO I-16 vs. Model Power I-16

I'm happy waiting for the HM 1/48 version. I'm willing to bet (I'll give you odds) that it will be the best I-16 on the market, by far (albeit for just a bit more cash, probably...).
