Photos IXO Beaufighter

Another IXO addition until something better comes along in the near future I hope. This aircraft (not this model) has always been one of my WW 2 favourites. It's sheer size, power, and armament are impressive. Enough of this waxing lyrical and on to the review.

As you expect from IXO there are heavy panel lines, little general detail. A skilled modeller would have a field day upgrading this model. I removed the cockpit and inserted a spare pilot figure (I know I'm a lucky SOB). The seat assembly comes out in a module and underneath this module I struck oil! Talk about Jim's oily IXOs! You could have powered a two stroke Yamaha 50 on the amount of the bloody stuff! I eventually mopped up all the oil with a soft tissue.

The pilot takes the bare look of the front part of the fuselage. Massive gaps between the wing root and fuselage, basic U/C legs but all these could be remedied by the experts on this forum. The tail plane dihedral may be wrong as I think it is to steeply angled.

The RPs are great, massive amount of metal in the model. Worth buying IMHO.

Re: Photos IXO Beaufighter

I got one of these a while ago because no one else has made the Beaufighter. As you point out, it has many of the usual IXO flaws but all things considered , it's not that bad for an IXO model. I sure hope that those rumors about Gemini making a Beaufighter mold in 2008 are correct. They will do a far better job of it.

Re: Photos IXO Beaufighter

I used black paint to connect the upper and lower invasion stripes on the leading edges of the wings.

Nice plane, but the panel lines do look like crap...IMHO

As for diecast aircraft IXO does filling the missing links till a better model comes along. I couldn,t stand it nolonger and built a Plastic kit of a Australian Mk21 "Green Ghost". May end up getting this one as well to have a mate.

Re: Photos IXO Beaufighter

I love the the armament and engine fit on the Aussie Beaus YYK. The 4 .50 Brownings along with the 4 20MM Hispano cannon give it the same punch as the P-61 Blackwidow. Hopefully they will do this aircraft when going through the possible liveries.

Re: Photos IXO Beaufighter

I saw this model on Thursday and was tempted because I doesn't look bad. I'd really like a good Beaufighter model. Then I remembered that the rockets on the IXO would take the props off if fired and that someone else just had to make this plane. I waited for the Typhoon, I'll wait for the Beaufighter.
