Re: PIXJ06-21 Blackburn B-24 Skua Mk II

Just what I need.
I've been debating on buying this one for a couple of weeks at my local store. Now with all this talk, I guess I will have to break down and get it.

smartd - make your move, Guy, & "pull the trigger"

I'm told these things (IXO-Skua's) DON'T come round too often !!!!!!!

One day - in future times, ya may kick yourself for NOT having picked one up.......
(we've ALL done that, in past times - with one model or another ?)

If Cruv' bought TWO that's all the indication you could want, on how good these are.

Airasair's right; it's good enough to twist your wallet open........

My advice would be, just check the fuselage-roundel is bang on centre, as I chose the best one out of 8 in the store

They DO sell quickly, as it's 'quirky' & unusual - remember = "snooze = ya lose"

Re: PIXJ06-21 Blackburn B-24 Skua Mk II

As a former Blackburn apprentice, I was very happy to get the Skua though it was long before my time.

Other schemes could include the black & yellow TT version with a windmill added to the aft starboard fuselage. Or, a pre-WW2 all silver with a wide diagonal colored band around the rear fuselage on which the unit code letters were displayed in white. No fuselage roundels were shown.

There is a photo in A.J.ackson's book "Blackburn Aircraft since 1909" which shows a Skua in Norway in 1940 painted similarly to the model except that the port underside is painted black, the standard day fighter scheme at the time.

Re: PIXJ06-21 Blackburn B-24 Skua Mk II

I would like to have a Blackburn Skua in paint scheme of Lt W.P. Lucy. Reported to have scored seven victories in a Skua and also the only Skua ace. Would also like to have one done up for one of the Skuas that took part in the Trondheim raid on the Scharnhorst.

Did Lucy accomplish this incredible feat---seven kills----against the Luftwaffe or the Italians, or both. Imagine what the Finns would have done if they used Skuas. They would probably have wiped out the whole Russkie Air Force.

Lt W.P. Lucy was commanding officer of 803 Sqn and looks like he gained all his victories in Norway. He also received a DSO for his part on the air strike against the CL Königsberg. Lucy and his observer were killed in a engagement against Luftwaffe bombers when his aircraft was seen to explode.

Biffo - you are WAY observant !!!!!!! I never noticed it, but you ARE right !!!!!!!!

RAF Fin-Flash should always be Red in Front, Blue at rear !!!!!!!!!

Cruv' thanks for the remarkable & (very) interesting info' on what is 'scarcely'-known........

Even more remarkable with such limited & puny .303 forward-firing 'Armament' !!!!!!!!!
