Re: Altaya Boeing PT-17

Wow, this is really cool. I had no idea that they made a PT-17. It's the first plane every to take me off the ground. Granted, I did get sick at my stomach. Hey, I was only seven years old.

Re: Altaya Boeing PT-17

Those are nice.

I had a customer ask me about these and I told them "they don't make um", Oops!

See, that's why I come here.

One of the T-6 Texan owners that I've flown with also owns a beautiful PT17 that was used in the movie Tuskegee Airman, it's used in the scene where C. Alfred "Chief" Anderson takes Eleanor Roosevelt up for a flight.

Now, whys there such a disparity between Altaya's anf IXO's offerings?

Re: Altaya Boeing PT-17

Gentlemen,
it seems to me that Altaya and DeAgostini it is the same magazine company.

For example II Second World War planes were distributed in Spain, Portugal or France by Altaya, whereas same models you could buy in magazine shops in Poland or Italy under name DeAgostini Editions.

I look forward to buy Mythic Biplanes as well and I will let you know if they appear in France.
For the moment they have just started in Spain.
Best regards- Pawel

Re: Altaya Boeing PT-17

I dont know if this is any help folks but there is a guy in Spain that sells IXO stuff on ebay. I have bought from him with no problems. He seems to have a good range of stuff. I got the Beaufighter, Skua, and Wildcat from him. The models arrived safe and well packed. His email is

With so much history attached to this aircraft, not to mention it's very significant contribution to training and producing a lot of fighter pilots in the military, why hasn't any manufacturer immortalized this aircraft in a larger scale say in 1/48?

Maybe we need to take a poll to gauge the interest for this airplane?

Re: Altaya Boeing PT-17

Got the model it is bright and interesting but quality is a shade below model power. I expected more. I will keep it among my MP bi-planes for diversity but besides being colorful it is heavy and more prone to be a paper weight in the future. Close but just not there just yet.

Altaya 1/72 biplane collection!

Hi, while surfing the spanish version of eBay (www.ebay.es) I see that Altaya are now putting out a line of 1/72 biplanes - with wing rigging and pilots! Versions I've seen for sale so far include a Fokker 'Red Baron' triplane (!), Bristol Bulldog, and a Spanish Civil War Hs-123 dive bomber. This looks like a great collection - though of course Altaya's variable quality may yet stuff it up...

Does anyone have one of these to advise on quality/fit? Any of our Iberian members able to feedback?

Re: Altaya Biplanes

Just received my Hs-123 from my connection in Spain (check out 't-toys' eBay store). This sucker is heavy - I think they actually used white metal (i.e. lead)! The detailing is not as good as Corgi, or for that matter as IXO/Altaya's WW2 series. While the livery (Spanish Civil War) is accurate and well-applied, there are a number of QC flaws, not to mention the wings are far too thick! I second the 'paper-weight' comment - I won't be getting any more of this biplane series

Re: Altaya Biplanes

I understand that the Planeta DeAgostini biplane line will start out with 10 planes and more may be added. In addition to the ones already mentioned they are offering a Polikarpov I-15, which I will go for, plus a Nieuport 11, a Spad, a SE-5 and a Sopwith Triplane. These should become available via those ebay sellers some of you use with connections in Spain, Portugal and France. A few will probable show up in two or three weeks. Have fun.
