Thumbs up Re: Polikarpov I-16

The ixo version is a gem. I am trying to figure out how to put rolling wheels on the landing gear. But it truly is one of my fav's.

Re: Polikarpov I-16

I like this one too. If it wasn't for IXO and EasyModels we wouldn't have any Soviet birds.

Re: Polikarpov I-16

Hey guys,
You all really love this bird? I was always on the fence about grabbing one, but a few forum members trashed it so I backed out. Could you all say why you love it? I've been kind of looking for a reason to grab one as the allure never really wore off. Do you think the mould just works, the livery is particulary attractive, or just that it fills that still vast Soviet gap?

Thanks guys for the time and pictures already posted.

Anything for a weird life.

Re: Polikarpov I-16

djjeffhall - All the IXO caviats apply. It's a small tubby open cockpit airplane. The gear needs to be white glued, but is then pretty sturdy. I wish my Il-2 sat on the Ishak's gear! Like the IXO P-40N blends in with other P-40s, it will blend in nicely with your other Soviet planes. They're probably all IXO or EasyModels!

I'm not trying to talk you out of buying IXO's I-16, but take a close look at a side view. If the oversized windscreen doesn't bother you then by all means add it to your collection. In my case I filed down the windscreen to a more correct height, added a pilot, and now have this plane in my display case along with a number of fairly decent Model Power versions of the identical plane in roughly the same scale.

Re: Polikarpov I-16

I think it's one of IXO's best... with the usual caveats. And as Epap says the canopy profile is off -- would be cool to see pics of it modified (hint-hint).

I'm probably going to get rid of my IXO collection soon, but this will be one I keep.

This is by far my favorite IXO, I dont know about detailing or windshield, I just love its big motor and strange shape.

It's the motor and shape thing for me too... The plane looks a bit cartoonesque. Like it bumped into the side of the screen.

Re: Polikarpov I-16

I just picked one up today, it's my first IXO model. Not knowing much about IXO, it caught my eye in the store, and just out of curiousity, I picked it up and checked it out. It didn't take long for me to be impressed enough to buy it!
This has always been one of my favorite WW2 planes. I can't wait to see this one in Spanish Civil War colors.
