I picked up two I-16s for doing future repaint on one of them. Thought about doing one in Spanish Republican garb, but just have not gotten around to acquiring decals for the project. Might even replace windscreen with vacuform one and see if I can find some weighted resin tires to spice things up. I have the tires and wind screen for a future 1/48th scale project, just need to see if I can find similar items for 1/72nd scale.

Think I have found my solution for making Spanish Republican variant mod on IXO I-16. Did come accross some decals, but canopy and weighted tires were a no joy. Came across a work around solution though, Amodel from Poland has a new 1/72nd scale kit on I-16 Type 5/6. Best part is model comes complete with markings for 2 Russian and 5 Spanish Republican aircraft. I just hope kit has couple canopies to possibly upgrade IXO one.

I really like my IXO Lavochkin La-7 which IMHO is the best Russian IXO. The landing gear is very solid & stable and the paint scheme is very attractive.

Having watched the I-16s perform at the Warbirds Over Wanaka (New Zealand) air show, the IXO model just doesn't look right because of the windshield which is too tall. If I bought one, I'd have to cut down the windshield before I could be happy with it..
