Re: IXO Shipment

I believe pics posted on the 'net without a copyright are fair game for anyone's "fair use", no?

Though I agree that when possible the original owner's permission should be sought.

Anyhow, moot now as it's been resolved.

Re: IXO Shipment

No. You do NOT have to attach copyright to something for it to be copyrighted, even on the Internet. Of course, attaching copyright notices HELPS your case when you try to stop unauthorized use, but it is NOT required.

Re: IXO Shipment

I would not mind getting the F2A in US markings.

Re: IXO Shipment

Once again the Folgore is left out in the cold. Well, at least we know IXO is still alive and shipping. Who's taking bets that these will be IXO's only releases this year?

I'm hoping the Ki-61 Hien is a winner -- IXO's other Japanese planes are pretty nice (and, of course, the only game in town). I'll wait on first-hand reports before I order any others, though, given IXO's spotty track record.

Re: IXO Shipment

The Buffalo is a US marked plane.

Really? The pic on IXO's site shows the same Finnish livery as the Altaya model. I would like one in US markings though if it's true!

Re: IXO Shipment

I have done business, like the rest of you I am sure, with several of these companies when buying my collection. The common theme through most of the sites isn't always price, but the photos. How many websites do you have to go through to find a picture of the quality of the Skua photos? Then when you do find one, it is through a forum like this one, instead of at the retail site. Looking at the pictures you wouldn't think you could get a plane of that caliber at the prices their being sold. I am sorry they yanked them without permission, but this goes on all over the web, all day, everyday. I realize the matter is closed as far as ships is concerned, but if it is so illegal why do the businesses continue to do it, and get away with it? It wouldn't be hard to police, as it is so blatant, like in this situation for example. I am certainly on the side of ships here, but without a copyright, it is tough to say where it came from, although this forum knows as ships had them posted. Before anyone bashes a company that, in my experience, never failed to supply fast, reliable, and customer oriented service, I think we need to realize that like every other diecast company out there, they were just participating in what has become an industry norm.

Re: IXO Shipment

No, it's NOT industry norm.

I do business with a number of online stores. They ALL either:
1. Take their own photos (usually clearly watermarked with a copyright)
2. Use company-supplied photos (usually clearly watermarked with a copyright)
3. Use customer-supplied photographs (often with no watermark, but always with clear credit.)

Even if it WAS industry norm, that doesn't make it RIGHT. Using someone else's photograph without permission or credit is wrong, cheap, and lazy. Taking a photograph good enough for a website thumbnail isn't that hard, expensive, or time-consuming. I realize that taking GREAT photographs IS hard, time-consuming, and can be expensive. All the more reason to support people who do it well.

I've also seen lots of products listed with a box that says "Photograph Coming Soon!" or "Photograph Not Yet Available" until such time as a photograph can be done.

It wouldn't have been that hard for the company to contact the photographer and ask, "hey, can we use a couple of your pictures?" I'm sure he would have been thrilled.

Enough said.

I AM excited about several of the announced planes.

Re: IXO Shipment

I could care less, plus all the pictures I can find seem to be the tiny and lousy IXO Altaya provided pics.

Why would you care if your picture is good enough that they would want to use it. Seems it would be a compliment.

How does it affect you in any way????

Flaps

So, what is the the opinion of the Forum members on Internet Retailers "lifting" somebody else's pictures for their own business use?
