Il-2m3 Sturmovik

I received this model the other day and I like it. All the typical IXO caveats apply: heavy panel lines, pitot tube pointing to heaven, oil on the skin, etc. But this is the first IXO I haven't had any problem with the fiddly bits. They just fit as they should. It's a heavy monster and I worry about the plastic landing gear. But it looks soooo good with the rest of my Russia air force. The rear gun swivels from side to side. The pictures on the Mule and Cat say it all.

Re: Il-2m3 Sturmovik

I am awaiting the arrival of my IXO IL-2M in eager anticipation. One obvious flaw I've already noticed in The Flying Mule's excellent pictures is the absence of the oil cooler intake tube, which was positioned on the right wing near the fuselage. I should be able to simulate this missing part with some aluminum tubing and a bit of creativity. Also, I don't think that the IL-2M had two cannons in each wing, as the pictures seem to suggest. As usual, this IXO, like so many of its predecessors, will require some research and fixing to come up with a more accurate model. Still, it's the only 1:72 scale IL-2M in town, so I will be glad to welcome it to my collection. Hobby Master please make an IL-2M----pretty please with strawberry jam on it!

Re: Il-2m3 Sturmovik

Yeah, I got this one as well. Fairly happy with it, with all aforementioned caveats. But at least I have this important WW II aircraft in the collection now. Finally...

Now if someone would make it in 1/48 (and better quality), then I'd be overjoyed!

Re: Il-2m3 Sturmovik

It's good to see that IXOs are landing somewhere. Apart from some stuff that was due last year there is nothing new here. I'd love to get the IL2 and I see the IL10 on the Mule site as well. Happy to get that one as well. IXO don't seem to be doing the Russian fighters as well as the Japanese ones though.

I just got one on Thursday and it was my first "oily IXO"!! I have four other IXOs and they've been fine but this model had some small beads of oil on the wings as well as a generous amount smeared around on the rest of the wings and fuselage. It took me awhile to get it cleaned off. Very, very odd.

I'll wait. I have yet to succumb to the IXO siren. But that Tony and Oscar do look pretty good.

The undercart on the IL 2 is wrong, the wheels should perturde from under the wing not lay in the wing, the IL10(BEAST) is correct though! but the only show in town as you say, ordered mine from Spain!

Interestingly, my IXO IL-2M never arrived from the seller I pre-ordered it from. Although I could get one if I wished, I decided not to make the effort. Instead, I'll wait for Hobby Master and possibly Corgi to take a stab at this famous warbird.

Re: Il-2m3 Sturmovik

I also noticed some errors in the Il-2. for one thing the landing gear is wrong and is it just me or is the the tail wrong also. I think they took it from the Il-10 assuming the Il-2 and Il-10 had both the same landing gear and tail.

Your comment of the tail looking off may just be right. Trailing edge of the rudder should pretty much terminate closer to the end of the fuselage and the shape of the horizontal stabilizer also looks to be off. Wing armament also looks more like the configuration that was found on the Czech built Avia B-33 (Twin 23mm armament) than that of the Soviet IL-2.
