Seeking info/review for the IXO Italian fighters - Fiat G.55 and the Macchi MC.205.

Anyone that has either or both of these models want to comment or review them here? Mold accuracy? Paint schemes/history? Execution of the model(s)? Personal opinions?

Any comments/perspective/opinions wlecome. Thanks in advance for answering my request.

I have the G.55 and am not particularly happy with it. Two problems really stand out:

1. The real plane has a single radiator on the belly (think P-51). The model has the belly radiator painted as flat lines. It also has two radiators which extend (one under each wing) under the wings. Wrongo!

2. The prop spinner is a huge bulbous affair on the model, unlike the pointed spinner on the real plane.

Because I hated this model so much I did some minor paint work on the wheel struts and in the wheel wells. I also replaced the original prop with one from my horrible IXO P-38 and repainted that as well. Now the model looks much better and more like the real thing(IMVHO). If only I could file down those awful wing radiators!

For this reason I didn't get the MC.205 as I didn't want to risk getting another dog from IXO. I don't know how the bottom of the 205 looks, but its spinner appears to be a bit larger than necessary. I'm sure someone on the forum can provide better details on that model (it may be great!). Good luck DA

I have both of these models. The Fiat G-55 has many problems, aside from the overdone panel lines that are a fixture with IXO's mass produced product. First, and most obvious, the spinner is oversized. Second, they took one of their notorious production shortcuts when painting the plane, using the underside light blue-gray ( RLM 76 ) on the topside as well. The correct topside colors should be a darker gray-green ( RLM 74 ), more or less as depicted, along with a gray-violet color ( RLM 75 ), which resembles the RAF's dark ocean grey, but is a tad lighter. In addition there are more errors on the underside moldings. One of these is that curious bump where the tail wheel is supposed to go. The real plane had nothing like that. So, despite its rarity, I can't recommend the Fiat. The MC-205, on the other hand, is another matter. Indeed, for an IXO, it is not that bad. Like all IXOs, the add-on parts are terrible. In my case, the spinner was so crudely molded that I had to sand down the rough edges and repaint it. Also, I would have preferred a different camouflage scheme and there are smaller detailing issues. For example, IXO has the plane's number tilted so it would be on a horizontal plane when seen on a runway. I've seen pictures and color profiles of this plane where this was not the case, so I altered mine, accordingly. Still, if you would like to broaden your collection to include Italian planes, IXO's MC 205 might be a good bet.However, please note that Hobby Master was talking about doing either a MC-202 or MC 205, in 1:48 scale, but their decision does not seem to have been finalized. If HM does put out either of these planes they will be vastly superior to anything IXO has done.
