Question Re: Defiant NF

Good pix - can you advise if the turret actually turns/guns elevate?

The turret is fixed and the guns do not move.

Re: Defiant NF

That is still a very cool and unique model. I might have to try and find one of those.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Defiant NF

Does anyone know if any of the real birds still exist?

Re: Defiant NF

I agree, there is no shame in having one on static display. Esspecially when she is the sole survivor.

There's also a full scale replica at the Boulton Paul Association in Wolverhampton, UK. See Flypast magazine, March 2003, pg. 70.

WOW - Sharp-Eyed Man, no4.

You really do have your fingers ON the pulse !!!!!!!!!

B.T.W. Harking back to earlier in the thread, you mentioned having no choice in your 264 Sqdn ' Daylight' colour scheme.

No 141 Sqdn also used Defiants in the early part of the Battle (same colours), BUT, with no-where near as much sucess, as 264.

Apparently the Sqdn Ldr of No.141, was neither, none to keen on his mount - nor on developing tactics suited to the a/c.

Suggestions by Philip Hunter (264's commander) fell on deaf-ears; then on one of their first outings, whilst flying along the English Channel, they were set upon & decimated (apparently continuing ahead in a straight-line - bizarre ?).

You made the right choice (of subject !), but I'm biased anyway !!!

Re: Defiant NF

Some rare footage of Low(ish) flying Boulton Paul Defiants, from the T.V. documentary W.W.II in Colour, with the late John Thaw narrating.

Ignore the inane (IL.2) comments underneath , by those that wouldn't know a Defiant if it jumped up & bit 'em.

The wing planform & tail shape, tell their own story;

(BESIDES the turret), for those who have difficulty I.D.'ing the a/c.

Footage of this a/c seems even rarer than the (1 x remaning) bird itself !!
