Re: Is Ixo worth the money

Well, the thing is that you should only buy IXO planes that you are sure that no other companies will make... cause they arn't that detailed. der! _-

You're right, it really depends on the price point and how much metal you like in your models. I really like their Mc-202 (with authentic markings) and He-162 jet; unique and well done models that complement Corgi and Dragon Axis aircraft . I was a little disappointed with the Me-110 in terms of the lack of guns, but the nose art is very well done as is the canopy framing - and for $NZ 33! No way will a Corgi version (if ever?) be that price in this country, looking at triple the cost at least.

Re: Is Ixo worth the money

I have IXO/Altaya's Skua, Buffalo and D.520, and am pretty satisfied with all of them. My plan is to buy only their more esoteric models, and leave the P-51s and Spitfires to Corgi and Dragon.

I wish Corgi and Dragon would produce some French and Italian aircraft!

Re: Is Ixo worth the money

Growing market saturation endangers the value of all brands. We need to be recuiting collectors. I'm thinking ROTC and Civil Air Patrol cadets may fill the ranks in the future. I'm going to donate a 1/48th Franklin Mint F-15 to my local C.A.P. squadron to try and stimulate interest from the youngsters.

Thats a nice idea i donated my Dragon F-14 to the US Navy ROTC at my son's high school and since then many of the cadets want to be pilots when they get out
No wonder i can't get my Top Gun DVD back from them

When I was in the CAP it sure wasn't like the Boy Scouts....that's for sure! They treated us like we just joined the Marines Of course for me I'm talking about 1963-67.

Re: Is Ixo worth the money

Holy Crimeny, is this an old thread or what-??! What am I doing here???

For me, the “are IXO models worth the expense” issue boils down to this: It’s strictly in the eye of the beholder.

For me, IXOs are junk, pure and simple. I own a bunch, and with few exceptions – they stink. That’s just an opinion, but it’s mine, and I’m sticking to it.

For other collectors, though, IXO models are the bee’s knees, if only because IXO issues models nobody else produces or is likely to produce, and that’s terrific. Who am I to suggest they’re wrong and I’m right, or visa versa?

It’s all in the eye of the beholder: What’s one man’s poison is another man’s elixir (or something like that). Ain’t that profound?

It isn't faith that makes good science, Mr. Klaatu, it's curiosity. Sit down, please. There are several thousand questions I'd like to ask you.

Hey Gort, "they stink" covers a lot of territory. Being a little more specific on you part, may provide me with some solid backing for any IXO issue I might purchase in the future. For example, what's wrong with with the Bf-110? Not enough rivets, no Swasi on the rudder, no pilot in the cockpit, the weathering too dark/light? Or, how about the Brewstrer Buffalo or the Ki-84 "Frank"? You're a good example of a die cast collector looking for the PERFECT at the expense of the good. IMHO, some, not all, of the IXO releases are really quite good. In the meantime, good luck in your quest for the perfect die cast aircraft.

For other collectors, though, IXO models are the bee’s knees, if only because IXO issues models nobody else produces or is likely to produce, and that’s terrific. Who am I to suggest they’re wrong and I’m right, or visa versa?
