The detail point is on a case by case basis. In some areas they have more detail. Take the model "Big Beautiful Doll" P-51D for example. IXO includes a great looking pilot's harness (seatbelts?) in the cockpit while Dragon does not. (My Dragon BBD now has the pilot's harness after I installed Eduard's photo-etched set). But generally I agree with you. I think in a lot of cases it's not so much that IXO lacks detail as much as they make it the wrong shape, as on all of their in-line engine US models that I've seen.

| I agree with the lot here.. The IXO japanese are really nice, the German stuff is Hit-miss and the Allied stuff is better off left alone.. | ||||||||||||||

| Well I have 3 IXO planes, the DO-335, He 219 and their P-38. They are Ok but way down on my list. But they make things that noone else makes. On a score I would give them 2+ out of 6. My P-38 will become a crashed bird when I finish my Diorama, will cut one wing of make som burn marks ++. The 2 german planes I will most likely repaint to make them look better. | ||||||||||||||

| I have been pleased w/ the IXO's that I have bought. I really like the HE 219 and HS 129. I also love the Oscar and French D-520, very nice! On the other hand though the Wildcat is laughable, (landing gear are completley wrong), the P-40 is also very poor. Other than those two exceptions I have been pleased w/ the value. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Is Ixo worth the money
I agree with Louie about the price. There are some that aren't even worth that and they're really just plastic toys. I've bought a few of the german planes that aren't available from Corgi and Dragon, but I display them seperately as they aren't good enough to be with the rest of my collection.

| Re: Is Ixo worth the money Personally, and I know that I appear to be in the minority on this, I think that IXO are excellent value for money and display well with their Corgi and Dragon brethren . I will qualify myself by saying that I can only speak of the Do 335, Hs 129, Me 110 and He 219, all of which I'm proud to have in my collection. Some credit should be given to IXO for having the courage to produce die-cast models that, although not perfect, are representative of the more esoteric and unusual designs usually ignored by other manufacturers. Now if only we could convince HM, Corgi or Dragon to also do a Il2 Sturmovik! | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Is Ixo worth the money I agree with Cardinal. I like to show the planes from all the combatants. I think the IXO Macchi's are excellent, along with the Hien, Sturmovik and Hs 129. I have the Me 110 displayed by my Corgi from the Wasp squadron and believe they compliment each other. I have enjoyed looking at these models for months now, how much longer would I be waiting to get one from the other major diecast manufacturers? Corgi can't get anything out on time (P-38 Bong, etc) and not a hint of any of these types from Dragon, Witty, HM or Gemini. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Is Ixo worth the money I wasn't into IXO at all until I swapped a FOV Stuka for a G55. I was impressed with the weight. Yes the spinner is terrible, but where else will you get one? I've gone for the obscure types but must add that these have given me good service. I got the He219 and wondered about the undercarriage since all the others I had at the time had up and down. I e-mailed them about the He219 and asked where I could get a Raiden. They asked me for my address and sent me two new models! OK, so they didn't answer the question about the undercarriage but then can both have the same problem? Obviously there's no up option! In SA IXO is the only brand I really buy locally so I pay about $20 including postage. Cheapest models I have. Slow to be released though. I get what's on the IXO website, so soon the Bloch 152, Macchi 205 and Hellcat will be released here. Where someone else makes a better model I'll go for the better one every time. | ||||||||||||||
