Re: Heinkel 219

So that is it? There is one HE-219 left. Think about this. There number of B-17's left in the world that are flown is the same number that Boeing, Douglas, and Vega produced in one day during the war.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Heinkel 219

I have to say I am sorry for anyone that is disappointed with this model. I just recieved my model last week and loved it.

People generally like to bitch, you got the thing for $20.00 , an amazing plane especially for only $20 to $28 which is what most people paid for this model.

My gear works fine and I did not use Super Glue although I could.

A few things about this is

1, it is already hard to get and going up in value for some people who did not get one.

2, If anyone else made it , it would have been better maybe, but it would also have been a $45.00 model at least.

3, Lets face no one else is doing this one anytime soon, I was kinda hoping IXO would release a 2nd in completely different markings and colors so I could get a 2nd.

It drives me nuts when people complain, especially based on the origin and rareness and low price.

Post Re: Heinkel 219

I've got a problem or a puzzle and I don't know which it is. I started to assemble the bird and as I looked over the parts I realized that the covers for the engine nacelles were missing. The model can be displayed with wheels down, all the parts are there, but to show the 219 in flight means leaving two gaping holes in the nacelles. The covers are not lost; I always examine the plastic packaging before removing the model. So, what's up? Did I get a Monday morning plane packager, or is this the norm? Damn odd if it's the latter.

Jehosaphat, it looks as though I put foot in mouth one-more-time. I LOVE the aircraft, visit it every timeI get to the Udvar-Hazy (NASM) which is usually twice a year, and I have it prominently displayed in my Luftwaffe section. However, I still think it's damn odd that the in-flight nacelle covers are not included.

And, while at the U-H I also do a couple of walk arounds of the DO-335. What an amazing aircraft.

Re: Heinkel 219 choices

That would be nigh-on impossible, sadly.

The Major criticism/gripe, from I.P.M.S. kit-makers - when Tamiya released their (utterly superb) injection-moulded plastic kit, of the He.219 onto the open market - was the extremly limited options of paint schemes/colour choices (didn't stop me buying a few though !!!).

ALL wartime He.219's were painted up, using only TWO basic colours,

RLM 76 Licht-blau ..........overall, top & bottom.

(Light-Blue - though more resembling a Blue-Grey).

AND

RLM 75 Grau-Violet.........splotches, formed into a disruptive pattern,

which were painted over the Top-Surface of the RLM 76.

(explained away, as "Standard" Luftwaffe Night-Fighter colours).

The ONLY Major difference was that some, had......

RLM 66 Schwartz-Grau (Black-Grey) undersides (overall).

So, mostly TWO, occasionally THREE (different shades).

This is true, but with a few minor corrections..

Very, very late in the war, 219s were easily spotted on the ground, so many were field painted with a combination of RLM81 Braunviolet and RLM83 Dunkelgrun to try and camoflage them better..

The "mottling" Hornchurch mentions is actually the reverse type.. The He-219 was sprayed with the base of RLM75 Grau-violet then oversprayed with RLM76 Licht-blau to create the "mottling" effect..
The pic below represents this effect which from a distance looks like dark spots sprayed on light.. (This pattern was applied in the factory as proven by the Udvar-Hazy (NASM) 219 that when the wings were removed, this pattern had been painted on the fuselage under the wing mounts.. I'll post the pic if I can find it)

Cool Re: Heinkel 219

Yes this lack of gear doors is annoying though for the price I am ok with this IXO model, and I actually like it!
The "cheap" effort IXO puts into the add on plastic parts in most of their models is an ongoing disappointment.
The Wildcat is the worst example of this though. Looks good in the box... Just don’t turn it over.
I have had to replace a number of the propellers in IXO kits as they simply did not fit or scale correctly w/ the whole model. This is why I am very selective w/ their products and simply will not buy them via mail order. I want to see an example first, and the price is right. In the words of the esteemed southern American philosopher Mr. Gomer Pyle... "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me".

Re: Heinkel 219

Of the 14 models I poss ess 8 are parked, 6 are in flight mode. Many of the decisions to have them either or other was determined by design or lack of quality control. With the Heinkel 219 it was already pre- ordained, park or landing mode. For me it's park. Swoopin' out

Re: Heinkel 219

Their P-40N is just as bad Swoop and like you, I pre-ordained that it would go gear down. Most of my planes are gear down (unless I've got no choice ala Matchbox) and IXO's poor quality control doesn't hurt too bad. But the P-40 has no gear doors so it looks cheap. Luckily I was able to make my own doors. Wouldn't want to try that on a He 219 - toooooo much work.
