Re: Ixo P-40 ?

I've got the P-40N as well and I like it. I've bought three of them and used two for conversions. The markings are indeed tampo prints....and if you don't like them you can remove all of them easily with nailpolish remover.
When you remove the markings (also the tail) you get a dark green P-40N with grey undersurface.....however you have to be carefull when removing the markings from the underside of the wing. The base color of the whole P-40 is green and when you use nailpolish remover on the grey area you have to do that with extreme caution for you easily remove the grey paint as well (happened to me but in my case it wasn't too bad because I had to put a decal on that exact spot).

Re: Ixo P-40 ?

Nice picture roofie! Gives me hope for my up-coming conversion project. Great info about how to remove the tampo prints. I plan on repainting, but it's good to be aware of any potential problems. The model itself doesn't look too bad. Now I'm really excited about getting mine.

Re: Ixo P-40 ?

OK pardon my confusion here... The above posted "Skull" P-40 is a modified IXO N type?

Re: Ixo P-40 ?

Nope Woodman - that's a picture I found of a 1/48 scale plastic model. I do have a decal set on order to make a 1/72 scale P-40N with these markings. I'm going to convert my IXO P-40N to (hopefully) look like that. Hope this clarifies things for you.

Re: Ixo P-40 ?

Thank you HotTrap! That is a sweet looking build! As to the IXO version w/ Chinese roundels, did they operate N's???

Re: Ixo P-40 ?

Got my P-40 IXO today and I am quite happy with it. I even like the markings, it looks great, even the gear looks good to me and fits well.

Once again they must use heavier metal or more of it cause the plane outweighs any other P-40 I have in 1/72 scale.

I likes it a lot. I am real happy with my IXO models, the only one I question is the Wildcat with its crazy gear, all the rest are real nice and look good on my collection.

Re: Ixo P-40 ?

Yeah that Wildcat is the only plane I have REALLY thought about returning. I was rightously PO'd when I saw the gear! But in the end I kept it as it does look good from above. I was a little skeptical of the markings on that one also@ first but did find a little confirmation, so what the heck.

Still trying to figure out if the Chinese used N's though. I was dubious about the "look" of the model in the box when I saw it but based on your comments flaps I intend to re visit this one. Thanks for the info.

Re: Ixo P-40 ?

Just received two IXO P-40Ns. Not a bad plane if you close your eyes and don't look at what is in my opinion a truly awful paint scheme. The top olive is brown. The underside is a charcoal gray - way too dark. Panel lines are typical IXO; very plentiful, deep and noticable. Positives are that the plane itself is pretty accurate in scale and overall shape. Also as Flaps has mentioned, this model is heavy! Lots of metal here with no bitty parts to break or lose.

Time permitting, I'm going to begin my long planned modification job on one of these this weekend.

The 49th Fighter group is one of my favorites, which plane do you plan on making?
