William: SR-71A Blackbird ?

WILLIAM:

My suggestion for a certain Hobby Master sell-out---the SR-71A Blackbird, the world's fastest plane at 2,193 mph. I don't think anyone else has a current release of the SR-71.

Re: William: SR-71A Blackbird ?

Though I think it would be a "winner", the mould would be very expensive to make just for one scheme (all-black). Sorry guys, no SE camo version is availible.

Re: William: SR-71A Blackbird ?

Limited schemes does not make a difference.

Multiple Registrations would sell out regardless.

A Blackbird would be the highest selling release in the history of diecast!

This one sits in the Smithsonian:

Re: William: SR-71A Blackbird ?

As I had mentioned peviously in another thread, this is one of those aircraft that I would really like to see in diecast. Does not matter if it's 1/72 or 1/144. I'll take it in either scale.

1:48 scale would be perfect for me.

Re: William: SR-71A Blackbird ?

I still don't know why people always say there's only one scheme for the SR-71, just because all of them have a black base. That's like saying there's only one F-14 scheme, because they all use grey for their main color. The Sundowners, Jolly Rogers, and Pukin Dogs all have very different schemes, even if they all use the exact same base grey camoflage to put their markings on. There's quite a few SR-71 schemes, ranging from the best-known white high-vis, to red low-vis, to the reactivation markings (my fave), NASA, plus the many custom tail-art ones--but they all use a black base. See here:

PS--the F-22 only has one scheme by any definition, and I bet that'd sell. Some planes are just so popular/desired, that sales of one release alone could pay for the mold.

I would also add it to the collection no matter the cost.

Re: William: SR-71A Blackbird ?

Hi,

Thank you for the suggestion.

As far as I am concerned, some other manufacuter is interested in doing this. This is commercial secret and I cannot tell who it is.

But for those who love the SR-71, you will probably see it very soon.
