Re: Looking forward to the new planes!

Are you saying that he never flew a single ground attack mission. I kind of find that hard to believe. That is what the Hellcat was famous for.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Looking forward to the new planes!

Er, HT? I wish you could whip-up a little more passion when writing your point of view.

I can certainly see where you are coming from on this. I have been going back and forth on the McCampbell Hellcat since I first saw it from Dragon. I like the pilot, but he sure flew one boring plane! That's why I liked the HM version a bit as it had something interesting on it (even if they are, as you so succinctly put it, "visual tu..er, excrement") Obviously I don't have the reference materials at hand that many of the members here do, but I ask if the loadout on this model is historically inaccurate for both the pilot and this plane? If so, I don't want it for that reason alone.

Plus, the stuff is probably optional -- as with most if not all HM models to date. You don't need to put the "turds" on if you don't want to. Personally I think it's great someone's doing this, and I've heard Hellcats, corsairs, and P-47s, et al were used for ground-pounding too

Though I do agree with the why this hellcat when dragon just did it -- unless they want to try to show dragon up?

Re: Looking forward to the new planes!

Back to the point, I'm really looking forward to the camo F104. I have the first two Migs inbound so I'm easy on the next two.

Cool to have a Mig21 that downed an F14 though. I guess the TBM will be nice to have.

I have the Dragon F6F inbound as well, with the nasty teeth. I'll see how much I like it. Optional ordinance is a great idea I think.

Re: Looking forward to the new planes!

I agree! Optional ordinance would be great! But if it's glued on, then why put it on an ace's plane? If you are making a plane to represent the type, then by all means, put on the ordinance - Hellcats frequently flew troop support missions during island invasions. But if you're representing a "type", then why make the markings so..... blaaaaaaa? I'm sure McCampbell flew ground missions, but that's not what he was famous for, and definitely not why his plane is being made. The model does look great though and I'm saving my pennies for the 3 tone Vraciu version.

As for the jets, they really do look great. I'm not going there though as I'm already sunk in up to my eyeballs with WWII planes and jets would just push me under.

I've got the "teeth" F6F from Dragon ZS - I love it, but wish it was the 3-tone version.

Re: Looking forward to the new planes!

I'm kind of thrilled to see Minsi III. I'm NEVER going to play the exclusives game, so Dragon can keep their CH version. I am actually overjoyed to see rockets and bombs on a quality model, even if on a famous aces plane. They help make his rather dull bird a little sexier. (And different from Dragons.) Can't wait to see the Avengers!

Re: Looking forward to the new planes!

I like choice. Maybe the Hobby Master Hellcat will be the best....who knows? Just pull the stinky poo bombs and rockets off if you don't like them. Shoot, it's more parts for the extra parts bins

That is my favorite scheme of all.

Re: Looking forward to the new planes!

F6F-3 comes with rockets, detachable fuel tank, open or close canopy, interchangeable undercarriage, a stronger stand. It comes with a pilot it also has bombs.
As far as I know everything comes in the plastic shell and you can pick and choose what you want on the model.

Now that's cool! We can outfit it as we want (or don't) and can keep the parts for other models. I like it! I offer my humble apology to HobbyMaster - they really are the best thing to happen to collectors this year.
