F3F-1 VF-3 USS Saratoga

An aircraft I never thought we'd see in diecast. A few problems on this one. Some of the rigging is not tight and sags a bit. The canopy slides but is very loose. Doesn't look good slid back as it doesn't sit straight. Minor issues but should be noted. But like the Buffalo I'll be picking up all of these. And I'm not usually a completist type of collector. The only other aircraft model that I'm considering getting the full set of is the Corgi Swordfish and for the same reason- these are all fantastic models that represent the best in this hobby.

Re: F3F-1 VF-3 USS Saratoga

This livery is just to bright for my taste, but it still is a lovely little plane.
I'll hold out for the blue version...

Can we try with real bullets now?

Great pictures! This is the model that started me down the slippery slop of pre-war 1/48 collecting. In addition to the HM F3F-1, I now also have two HM Buffalos, a C1 Wildcat and am waiting for a C1 P-36 and the HM F3F-2 to arrive.

I have this one and really like it. I think HM did a great job on it and looking forward to the new two versions as well. I saw a movie about 3 months ago on AMC called FLIGHT COMMAND from 1940. It was about the F3F with great shots. Of course it was in Black & White. I would love to find it on DVD somewhere.

Re: F3F-1 VF-3 USS Saratoga

The folks at HM did an real nice job on this one. I liked this one so much that I put the next two on preorder.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Keep an eye open for the movie Dive Bomber with Errol Flynn and Fred McMurray. It is full of pre-war naval aircraft and best of all it is in Technicolor.
