HM Planning a Series Of 1:200th Scale "Retro" Airliners

I just noticed this announcement on Hawk's site---The Hobby Master Collector. It seems that an Electra is first up. Sounds very interesting.

1/200th scale retro airliners

I just saw a blurb on the Hobby Master Collector page indicating the folks at HM will be starting up a 1/200th scale line of models. Retro airline looks to be the theme for this line of models with first aircraft listed being a Lockheed Electra. Looks like the folks from HM are also looking for customer inputs as two what aircraft and what airline markings would like to be seen. It sounds kind of neat.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Looks like we both spotted this notice at the same time, CC. I wonder if there's a way to combine our threads? Anyway, while this is a very interesting idea, more or less in the spirit of the
classic" line we were discussing a month ago, I wish a larger scale was contemplated-----say, at the minimum, 1:144th or, even better, 1:100. Planes like the Electra, DC-2, Ford Tri-Motor or, even a JU-52, are going to make for pretty small replicas in 1:200th scale.

Well I guess both of us are pretty early risers. Yep, need to have one of the Mods squeeze mine into your thread. I kind of have mixed fealings with regards to going with 1/200th scale. It would be nice to go with a slightly larger scale, but I also have a small selection Wiking models that actually look kind of neat and they are only in 1/200th scale.

Re: 1/200th scale retro airliners

Here are a couple of 1/200th scale Wiking models. Pretty small, but still mixed as to whether or not they should consider a larger scale as Epapazian suggested. Sure would be easy to find room for smaller size scale though.

Re: 1/200th scale retro airliners

So, now the game begins. Setting aside the larger scale issue for the moment, what might be included in this "retro" airliner list? Being realistic, which means that most of the planes will have to be U.S., British and German to maximize sales----even if this is unfair to Italian, French, Russian and other airliner makers-----I could suggest the following to start such a discussion:

1) Ford Trimotor
2) Dornier Do X
3) JU-G 38
4) JU-52
5) ANT-14
6) DC-2/DC-3
7) Pan Am Clipper ( Boeing 314 )
8) Douglas DC-4
9) Boeing Stratoliner
10)FW-200
11)Lockheed Constellation
12)Boeing Stratocruiser
13)Vickers viscount
14)de Havilland Comet
15)Boeing 707
16)Douglas DC-8
17)Sud-Est Caravelle

I've left out many perfectly viable candidates, including some true classics that would be very difficult to render as small scale diecast replicas or are simply too diminuitive for the proposed scale.

Re: HM Planning a Series Of 1:200th Scale "Retro" Airliners

Sounds kinda neat. I just got my feet wet with 1/400 military aircraft and regret it. I don't want to start another collection but it sounds like it will sell

Re: HM Planning a Series Of 1:200th Scale "Retro" Airliners

If they want suggestions, here is mine--- How about a series of 1/200 postwar US bombers to go with the retro airliners. I am thinking a B-36. B-47, B-52. etc. I think these would be great in a 1/200 line and would nicely complement the airliners. They could also do some Soviet and British bombers as well. I think they would all be great sellers. That is my suggestion...
