Hopefully one of experts can answer this question for me. I picked up a Hobbymaster F-4 showtime. My question is, were these planes ever flown without the under-wing fuel tanks?? Thanks in advance

All the time, as a matter of fact, there was a debate on this/ or the UK forum as to why the Navy Phantoms had them as it was thought that they rarely flew with them.

It looks as if they fly more with just a center line fuel tank than wing fuel tanks. If they did fly with them, they were likely for very long flights. If it was during combat, they would likely drop them prior to attacking a target or getting in a dogfight, but like I said before, pictures seem to show Navy F-4's with a center line tank only if any at all.

Thanks so much, I appreciate the info. In my humble, newbie, opinion, this aircraft looks much better without the tanks. I wanted to solicit opinions on the actual configurations before I removed the tanks.
