Re: James "Ginger" Lacey Spitfire

I acknowledge that EI ( I own two P-51Bs ) is tops, but I am not so sure about C1 being better than HM
Certainly they are very good. I only own a Fw-190D from them and I love it, but I would not say it is any bettter than any of my two HM Spitfires ( Johnson's and Lacey's ) or my HM Buffalo. They all are quite good.

But I would still rank HM above C1 fore the simple issue that they give me ( us ) several exciting liveries that really catch my imagination and make me want to buy them, and all this while keeping the quality very good ( I would not bother to buy from them otherwise ).

And for the record, I have Lacey's Spitfire at home since last Saturday and it is indeed a very fine piece of diecast. In real life it looks better than in any of the pictures I have seen so far and I would quite simply reccomend it to any of you.

I only have one Carousel 1 model so far and really find know appreciable quality difference over that of my HM models of similar scale. Only major difference would be price.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: James "Ginger" Lacey Spitfire

I still stand by my original reply of this particular Spitfire being an EXCELLENT model/value.

Take care -

I certainly agree with you.

"Better than" is a bit of a subjective term, wouldn't you agree? I don't think anyone here inferred C1 to be better than HM, just pointing out the differences between the models that translate into a justifiable cost difference. Each has its strengths and weaknesses, and each collector will have to decide how to assess the value of each.

Re: James "Ginger" Lacey Spitfire

I've got both HM and Carousel 1 1/48 diecast and I agree with Elmer, the Carousel pieces have an 'aura' of quality that surpasses that of the HM pieces (which are excellent in their own right). I just wish Carousel provided stands and smaller boxes (the WWI aircraft boxes are ridiculously large for the size of the model).

Like to see HM make Ginger's Hurricane, I believe that is the plane he got 99% of his kills with.

Man, Cardo... you always come up with the cool terms/phrases that perfectly describe what I am thinking, but just can't get from my head to my fingers. Yes... 'aura' of quality. Perfect.

Hey Fellas, can you tell me where the best price is for this plane, please?

Re: James "Ginger" Lacey Spitfire

I finally got my Lacy Spit today. Nice paint, gear were stuck up, like they were stuck to the paint, but I got them down. Does everybody else have the same 'Magnifying glass' effect on the sliding portion of the canopy? Other than one of the wing cannons being pointed down quite a bit more than the other, thats my only real 'gripe'

Hi Wizard! The 'magnifying glass' effect is par for the course for HM's high back Spits.
