| Re: How Many Of The "Usual Suspects" Really Need Redoing? My top five usual suspects that belong in my 1/48 collection: Fw 190A (Any A) Corsair (WWII era, incl. clipped wing version for British export) Spitfire (a Mk I, V and XI would be super but a pre V is a must; Watts up Mk I Battle of France!) Ju 87B Typhoon (bubbletop) My caveat is that it's a given that Marushin models are generally available. If Marushins are not available then a Model 21 and 52 Zero, and a razorback inline Tony would take the 4th and 5th slots above). Before I turn 81 please. | |||||||||||||

| Re: How Many Of The "Usual Suspects" Really Need Redoing? As has been suggested in several posts, one way to mitigate lack of enthusiasm for usual suspect redos in 1:48th scale would be to go for variants that have not been done to death. For example an early model BF-109---say an E1/3---would allow many BOB and Battle of France as well as Spanish Civil War schemes. Or, taking the other tack, a late model BF-109---like the G-10 or K , would cover ground not already covered with diecast footprints. A similar approach could work with the F4U, where a birdcage canopy version could be included. In the case of the P-40, an N model might be the way to go, while a P-51B might be the best variant to do for this popular warbird. In many cases, it should be possible to turn out the early mark and later variants of the same planes by varying the wings and other parts. A hurricane MK I and the cannon armed Mark IIC/D versions come to mind here as well as a FW-190A8 and F-8, and returning to the P-51B, isn't it feasible to make an A from the same basic mold? | |||||||||||||

What??? What scale?? Surely you are not suggesting 1:48? But I can't see a need for any Mustang variant (maybe an A) at 1:72 scale either.

| Re: How Many Of The "Usual Suspects" Really Need Redoing? I would have to agree with fileasfog and kabelace that one of the most attractive things about HM is their willingness to produce subjects a bit more off the "beaten path". That being said, HM's quality is so good that I would almost certainly buy most of the usual subjects if HM releases them. I'm really pretty much a sucker for a Hobby Master model. I would be a big supporter of a 1/48 P-51B/C, lots of great liveries and different canopy options. A Tuskegee Airmen version would be fantastic! I agree that an Allison "A" variant would also be possible from the same mold, but that's definitely an uneducated guess. A few early Mustangs even made their way into the VVS! Also in 1/48 an F4U any WWII variant would be great. In 1/72, I would rather see HM continue with their current selection process. I won't give a wish list, except to say that more WWII twin engine subjects in 1/72 would be welcome. | |||||||||||||

I, personally, am about filled up with P-51s and Gemini's P-51Bs in 1:72nd do that version nicely for me. However, I sympathize with 1:48th scale fans who aren't happy with the Mustangs they've got so far, so I am just trying to stimulate some thinking about how HM might---and I emphasize the word, might---proceed along the redo path to satisfy such cravings.

Epapazian - have you considered the 1/48 scale Eagles International P-51B? I think it is one of the best 1/48 scale diecast models that has been made.

| Re: How Many Of The "Usual Suspects" Really Need Redoing?
I've noted many comments to that effect, on this forum but I am not really looking for more P-51s of any type, but especially not in 1:48th. However, if HM were to offer a well thought out series in this scale that induced me to buy some BF-109Es, FW-190As, F4Fs, Zeros ( early version only ), Hurricanes, and others, a P-51B would certainly be a possibility, including the Eagles International versions.

| Re: How Many Of The "Usual Suspects" Really Need Redoing? Although I definitely see the need for many re-makes of most of the Armour / Franklin Mint models including the P-51D Mustang, I don't see any need whatsoever for a remake of the P-51B Mustang. It has been rendered very well by Gemini Aces and Eagles International. I don't think even HM could make a better one. | |||||||||||||
