Re: HM Dauntless

I received my Midway HM Dauntless from the Mule last Thursday, and I am blown away by it! It really lives up to all the hype. I can hear it screaming down to blow up one of the Japanese carriers at the battle of Midway.

Do have a question, however. It came with a one piece plastic plastic canopy, and also has an alternative of 3 pieces that go together. Seeing as how the middle canopy piece, that covers the pilot, is too small to slide back, one can either put it in place, which is just like the one piece canopy being there, or leave it off, which gives at least the appearance, if innacurate, of the pilot having slid his canopy back. Am I correct, or am I missing something?

You are correct. Here is a link to my HA0102 Dauntless page and a few pictures of just what you are talking about.

This was my solution...

Talking Re: HM Dauntless

Yeah the canopy separation is the only (very minor) knock I have w/ these. Then again the Dragon canopies don’t always look so good in the "open" option position. I think the panel line detail is fine. Some seem to think its to heavy but well... No! Not so much.
I have the Yellow wing and the Coral Sea versions but after reading these posts suppose I will relent and get the Midway version also.
The Yellow version is awesome and looks great next to my Easy Model yellow wing Wildcat... Awaiting the Dragon version of this Wildcat though.
I am guessing that Hobbymaster has done 2-3000 each of these subjects worldwide.

Re: HM Dauntless

JC Woodman,
Hey there.

You will not regret picking up your next Dauntless. The Hobby Master line of Dauntless's is the best diecast 1:72 plane in the field. (IMHO)

Re: HM Dauntless

Had to pass a story about the toughness of HM's Dauntless:

A friend of mine here at work has one (we bought them together and had them shipped at the same time). He was making a base for his, and wasn't aware that the wheels rolled. He picked up the base with the loose aircraft on it, and tipped it. The Dauntless rolled off. My friend was standing up when this happened...the plane fell all the way to the ground.

It landed flat, exactly on its landing gear in a three-pointer.

No damage whatsoever.

I have all three....and will be getting more. I think it ranks pretty close to Dragon's P-51 in detail, etc. And that's saying something for me....everyone knows how much I like the Dragon P-51

Please clarify this for me - I have the Lexington Dauntless and I can assure you that the wheels do not roll as they are glued solid (at least on my version) . Should they ... ???

Yes, please clarify, as mine do not roll either!

Whew, I thought I was alone in possibly having 'faulty' landing gear for my Dauntless (and I've just ordered another) ...
