Re: Finally a Val!

Well, this is very exciting news. Other than the (obligitory) Pearl Harbor bird, what are your suggested liveries?

Anything for a weird life.

Re: Finally a Val!

Addition of a Val will be fantastic! Look forward to having one sitting next to my HM Kates.(Now if we can only get them to make the Devastator.) Go Hobby Master!

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Finally a Val!

William, please do a Pearl Harbor version of the Val painted overall "semi-gloss light olive gray". They were never painted the traditional "flat light gray". The color should be a close match to FS 24201 but lightened up for the scale effect. (Sorry for sounding like a broken record, guys! I can't stop myself!)

Yes, we will (if we are going to make the Val in the future).

For the third Kate, the underside will be painted with light olive gray.

The second Kate is a Midway one so it is light gray according to our Japan's side advice.

William

Re: Finally a Val!

Thanks William. HM's first release Pearl Harbor Kate is painted beautifully! You have my email address - right? I did not receive any request from you regarding the correct colors of the "Midway" Kate. Also, we do not believe the topside of the third release Kate was brown and green camouflage with light olive gray on the underside only. It would be more accurate to paint it overall light olive gray with dark green field applied areas on top. The IJN did not use "light gray" on any of their aircraft. The correct color is "light olive gray" whenever IJN "light gray" is specified. I don't understand why the "Japan side" has not read up on the most current research on this subject. They have yet to produce any substantiated evidence that the "light gray" myth is correct. Furthermore, most experts on the subject agree with the "light olive gray" correction to the traditional belief. I have posted many times here photos of artifacts that are clearly "light olive gray". The "Japan side" may have a problem with "Western side" research. The HM first release Pearl Harbor Kate is accurately painted since some earlier Kates may have been left unpainted on the underside. Let's finally get an accurately painted IJN model when IJN gray is required. Of course, all of this only matters if one cares about accuracy. If that is not a concern, then brown and green camouflage on top with light olive gray on the bottom will look really cool! The Val will assist greatly. If it represents their ill-fated attack on Pearl Harbour. Meaning, they shouldn't have contemplated it in the first place. Stupid B - - - - - - s !!

Hi Chris,

For the third Kate, the Japanese side has sent me a B/W photo of the aircraft and they have informed me that green and borwn camouflage should be correct.

Anyway, I will take your advice for any IJN aircrafts in the future we will make it light olive gray.

I have your e-mail and will contact you again. I think we will start the Val next year.

William

Thank you William. It will be my pleasure to assist you in any way possible regarding any WWII Japanese aircraft. As you know, one cannot determine color from black and white photographs (but that is yet another controversial subject believe it or not). Just to be clear though, only when and where IJN light gray is specified, the correct color is (from direct comparison of actual artifacts to the "Federal Standard Colors" color chips) IJN light olive gray (close to FS 24201 lightened for the scale effect). I'm sorry that most IJN aircraft have a somewhat boring color and camouflage scheme but accuracy is the goal I think. IJN markings, on the other hand, can be VERY interesting though!
