Mr. Liu, here is your chance to slay the DRAGON

Or at the very least you can clip it's mighty wings off with only two bold lightsaber strikes to its heart!

Strike 1: A late model F-16C with CFT's and Spine

Strike 2: A new legacy F/A -18C Hornet

Do justice to these two and you can take your rightfull place upon the Emperor's now vacant throne.

Yes, do it you must! You can sense that what I say is true.

But in the interim, I'll be happy with just a F-101B Voodoo and Mig-23 Flogger

Re: Mr. Liu, here is your chance to slay the DRAGON

Hi, Norm. I think that the dragon has already slain itself. The only one that might be in the game---barring the appearance of a totally new contender--- is the x-leader of the pack---a company that some still refer to, fondly, as "The Pooch". It looks to me like HM's decision to give us a Beaufighter is a solid step to rein in The Pooch should it stir from its long slumber. They're going wild about HM's Beaufighter on the UK forum.

A timely warning against one, all-powerful diecast potentate: Never put your eggs in one basket. Should every other diecast manufacturer fall, we'd have but one anointed sovereign. And if Hobby Master were to topple, our entire diecast kingdom would collapse with it.

Better to have two to three manufacturers contending for the throne.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Re: Mr. Liu, here is your chance to slay the DRAGON

If history tells is anything, it's that a reasonable degree of competition is good for everyone---including the leader of the category. In addition to keeping the various parties on their toes, the competing companies, collectively, put out more products than any one company can, which stimulates the marketplace and draws in new collectors. What we've seen in the past six or seven years is a lot of companies jumping in to skim off what they can by putting out "safe" models like the P-51, P-47, BF-109, etc. but not really taking a long range view or committing themselves to grow the hobby. Now, most of these have scaled down their efforts or given up entirely, leaving the newcomer, HM, in the driver's seat and Corgi licking its bruises and ( I hope ) plotting a comeback. Even if Corgi fails, however, I expect some other company to join the frey. Hopefully, the new player---or players--will devise some way to produce its own product---like HM does--so it can compete. We can live with two or three serious players who have the sense to avoid needless product duplication and are focused on customer service and quality control. What we don't need is a mob of companies jumping on the diecast bandwagon, just to exploit cheap labor costs at. the Chinese factories. As we have seen, that's not an automatic guarantee of success.

IMHO, considering the current U.S. economic situation, HM provides the best quality product for the best price.

Re: Mr. Liu, here is your chance to slay the DRAGON

Hi,

I have done a bit of reading on marketing theory.

It is often better to have a few competitors in the market than none. It is not only good for the collectors to have more choices, but that the "type" (die-cast collectibles) itself will be strengthened and attract more people to develop a hobby to collect.

Hence, it is important to keep the market active as you can see we keep on investing a lot on new toolings.

We need new collectors to buy all those Texans.
