Re: HM's F100D

Fair point Gort, and nicely illustrated -- I confess to not realizing that's what those stripes were meant to be when I looked at the pic.

Same here. I was wondering what those brown stripes were supposed to be. Gorts picts should serve as some fine examples for HM to emulate or as suggested, leave the stripes off.

Re: HM's F100D

I'm in full agreement with Gort...ditch the simulated burn lines. Those effects can be achieved more sublte just like Matchbox exhaust or gunsmoke lines if you get my trip.

Re: HM's F100D

William's reaction at DAF was

I don't mind it, and I'm sure it will look more subtle than that in person.

I must come to Williams defence his reply was made to me about a picture he posted some time before todays release In which he was experimenting to try to show these burnt areas, Unlike the finish which is shown today he did come up with a more realistic finish but he felt it was still not good enough but I pointed out it was far better than todays factory effort. Rest assured both this and the problems with the canopy will be sorted out

Re: HM's F100D

For that matter the burn marks can be added by collectors. The bronze prisma color pencils work just fine for this.

Thanks, johnnyboy. Honestly, for a moment I thought I would have to cancel my F-100D pre-orders. Those stripes look like they came off some predatory cat roaming the African Savannah.

See, I believe if collectors hold out for something better—they’ll get it. If they meekly submit and accept whatever comes down the pike, they deserve it.

Re: HM's F100D

forgive my ignorance but why did the livery change from the original pics? In a much earlier post this bird was shown with two blue chevrons on the tail from the 416 TFS Misawa Japan, right? When did green enter in? Thanks for the help in advance.

All due respect Gort, but I don't see myself as meekly accepting whatever comes down the pike. I am merely easier to please than some.

That having been said, I'm glad that Hobby Master is still working on correcting the issue.

Good catch, Louie! I was wondering the same? The other two are on preorder at Pete's:

HA2103
F-100D SuperSabre, 56-3000 ""Triple Zilch"" 20 TFW, RAF Wethersfield Essex, England Late 1957

HA2102
Major Don Schmenk'S F-100D Supersabre 31 TFW, 308 TFS, Tuy Hoa, RVN, late 1969

We need William to shed some light on what happened to the 416 TFS Misawa Japan F-100, as I really like that scheme myself.

I meant no offense, Chairman. What I failed to express is that diecast collectors ought to insist on a manufacturer’s best efforts (in this case Hobby Master) and accept nothing less. Everyone benefits from higher standards.

Louie and others,
William explained the change in an earlier post here or somewhere that I read. As I recall what William said-- he determined that the green set of markings was correct for when Col. Comstock flew this airplane. After Col. Comstock left and the airplane was reassigned, it was painted in the blue markings. Apparently, Col. Comstock is still living and confirmed all this. At least that is how I remember William explaining it. If I have any of this wrong, I am sure William will correct this. As for the markings, I like the green markings with the TAC emblem. In fact, I like it better than the blue scheme.
