Who has the Blue Angels A-4?

I ask because I have a problem, I just wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem. The problem is this, the yellow paint on my A-4 is too thin. It probably needs another two coats at least, because I can make out the blue underneath. The yellow should be very vibrant on these planes, but I noticed it wasn't that great as soon as I removed it. I never bothered sending it back because the pre-pros on Hawks site looks pretty similar to mine, but then I noticed the one in the mule's pics looks much nicer than mine. Lighting may have a little bit to do with how good the mule's looks but I don't think it's just the lighting.

Re: Who has the Blue Angels A-4?

Mine is the same, yellow does look a bit green being so translucent over the blue.
I figured HM rushed this one out to accompany the Hellcat. That one does not look so great either.
Rather than taking pride of place in my Blue Angels display they have both found their way to the background.

I have it too, not my favourite scooter.....

Two things that struck me was that the blue finish dulled VERY easily when handled and the main U/C legs and doors need a lot of trimming to fit.

Yeah the blue is just not right and sure is not glossy enough.

Re: Who has the Blue Angels A-4?

I have to agree with smartd that the yellow is a tad on the translucent side giving that "greenish" color. I would have to say in this case that love is blind as I have looked past that. This A-4 is what got me into this avenue of collecting diecast aircraft! Lets hope this wont be repeated with the F-4 Phantom

Re: Who has the Blue Angels A-4?

FFP1, How did you get into my house to take a picture of my A-4? Because your photo is exactly how my A-4's paint looks. Althought the yellow tips on the tops of my wings look more orange-yellow than yellow.

I also have the Corgi F-4 Blue Angel #1, and it has a much much better paint job. The blue is a vibrant blue, and the yellow is a vibrant yellow.

Oh well, I guess I can be happy with what I have knowing that 99% of the people who will see my collection have no idea how the true colors should look.

Re: Who has the Blue Angels A-4?

i think they just took the short cut of painting the yellow over the blue. But still, I reckon it will still be better than Corgi's A-4 Blue Angels when/if it ever comes

Re: Who has the Blue Angels A-4?

I tell you what, if it wasn't for those two rather large gaps, I would probably purchase the Corgi one and send the HM one back. The paint is much more accurate looking colorwise. Sadly, I think we can expect the same paint quality for the F-4. I really hope I'm wrong.

Re: Who has the Blue Angels A-4?

Hi,

Attached a photo of the F-4 Blue Angel.

I think basically it is the same color of the A-4.

The yellow printing is not of the highest standard as I see.

We should have either print twice or print a white layer underneath for better results.

For the upcoming F9F Blue Angel we will certainly improve it again.

Re: Who has the Blue Angels A-4?

So does that mean the F4 Phantom will have the same problem with the yellow as the A-4 ?
