Re: Fairey Swordfish?

One in 1/48th scale would be fine by me.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Fairey Swordfish?

..add at least a hundred to that ... $250... I'll settle for another Corgi 1/72 one...... like er.. the US silver release......!!!

I'm with you on that. For $250 I can have all the Corgi 1/72's I haven't bought yet.

Re: Fairey Swordfish?

There were in fact six Swordfish in the attack and five survivors one of whom was unwounded. One of the survivors, Brian Rose was killed a year later.

Amazingly the other four, Don Bunce, Pat Kingsmill, Edgar Lee and 'Mac' Samples are still alive.

An account of the attack can be seen here.

Very interesting post D.C.R.

Many thanks for the info'

Re: Fairey Swordfish?

That's the thing that seems to be "sticking the knife" into Companies like Tamiya, thesedays......

(Their) Over-priced & expensive 'plastic-kits' that (now) have DIRECT competition with well-made Die-cast models

... i.e. the "Goal-posts" have shifted

As an I.P.M.S. friend of mine remarked, earlier this month......"the emphasis is shifting AWAY from plastic-kits towards Die-cast, BIG-TIME"

"You can buy a well-made Hobbymaster for LESS than the price of a kit & paints & decals & brass-etched..."

As Cruv' says; by the time you've 'lashed-out' on an expensive-kit & THEN bought the (neccessary) paints & THEN the After-market decals (plus, various varnishes).....

The Diecast (by comparison) is (nowadays) well finished & ready to "Rock'n'Roll" straight out the Box !!!!!!!!!

Far less hassle..... (but, I guess, less personal reward).

I know my Hobbymaster Harvards can't be beaten for a meagre £ 10

Yes but one of the joy's of plastic kits is that you have made it and although it might not look nearly as good as the finished "hobbymaster/corgi/etc" it's all your own work.

The only thing that is keeping me away from kit building is available time. If I had it I would build. Diecasts are great but there is no sense of accomplishment at the end. - It's all "Instant Gratification", which to some extent is fun, but modern society seems to be addicted to currently. I know my kids are. It's turning my hair grey trying to get them to turn off the video games/TV and go a do something creative.

Ooops!

Hi Timbo - yeah, you are 100% right !

The 'Gratification' level of something YOU'VE made can't be matched

However, some Folks make a hash of it, whilst others (like me NOWADAYS) have a 'Low-Boredom Threshold'

Given the fact that I'm a 'perfectionist' & I like to take my time..... so the project slows-down to the point where the 'Fun' factor evaporates (for me) & then I end up buying a Ready-made Die-cast instead.

Bit like comparing "Fine-Cuisine" with "Fast-food" ("Junk-Food")

I've just gotten Lazy, with old-age !!!!!!!!!

I think I can generally put myself in the "make a hash of it" category, but I know my limitations with these so I can accept that. I haven't built a kit since I left college, although I've several waiting, it's just finding the time to do it. Was hoping I could get my oldest interested in picking up the spruces glue and paint, but he seem generally to fall into the "low boredom threshold" and so hasn't really been interested that much.

The one thing though that niggles me every so often with my diecast collection is though I have limited personal investment in it (apart from the cash outlay). Yes they look great, and are much better than I could currently do, but I'm finding more and more some dissatisfaction coming to the surface with collecting ready made. Does anyone else feel the same??

I would disagree, I think you exagerate a bit.
I would not see a HM 1:48 Swordfish costing anywhere near $250.
My be would be something between double the price of one of their 1:48 Spitfires and below the price of one of their 1:32 Dauntless.
