F-104 Paul : German F-104G's at Luke AFB,AZ

F-104 Paul. I have a print of 2 F-104G's With USAF markings called Gunfighters of the New West by Heinz Krebs. I was just looking at it a little more Closely and on the bottom of the horizontal stab, You can see the colors of the German flag Black,Red and yellow strips painted on it. Do you know if this was an operational paint scheme, That was operated by the German Air Force at Luke? I think this would be a great paint Scheme for Hobby Masters to consider. Thanks LM

I dont think those are German colors under the tail.
It looks like the artist is trying express shadow, shading & reflective effects on the underside of the aircraft.
If you look close you will see some of the same red on the bottom of the aircraft as well.

I think I'm going to have to disagree with you. The colors are clearly black, red and yellow on both undersides of the horizontal stab. I don't see anything on the bottom of the plane with those colors. The lead starfighter looks to have the same colors on the stab as well.

Germany based F-104s out of Luke...

German AF started the F-104 transition course 65 - H in Oct. 1964 based in Luke AFB - Arizona:

2.DtLwAusbSt.,
Luke AFB
Feburary 1964 - March 1983
269.750 h

Regarding your print I can say that it indeed was a german F-104.

Re: F-104 Paul : German F-104G's at Luke AFB,AZ

I thought i saw a picture one time of a F-104 with the German stripes and it was at Luke AFB.
I could be wrong ....But i think it had the stripes on the stab area.

Ahh what the heck do I know, I have few good books on F-104's & have not seen USAF birds with German colors on them, but I be could wrong.
To me it just looked like part of the painting & while the yellow may not appear on the bottom of the plane there is still a hint of red & black in the reflection.
Just putting out my opinion.

Re: F-104 Paul : German F-104G's at Luke AFB,AZ

Looks like German colors to me. Considering that F-16s from Singapore are flying with mixed Singapore and Luke markings currently, I could believe that they once had F-104s with German markings.

Re: F-104 Paul : German F-104G's at Luke AFB,AZ

The Photo supplied by Hawkonevoodoo shows the actual F-104G of the print. I can't see the underside of the horizonal stab,But the port side fuel tank has the same colors on the verticle fin of the tank So how about it Hawk? what about this F-104G for a Hobbymaster liverey? It would go great with my print.LM
