Re: The Hobby Master Takeover!!!!

I agree with this; I don't want to see HM become a victim of it's own success. If that means slowing down the rate of new releases, I'm all for it.

I totally agree with that. I love that HM is putting out tons of stuff and spoiling us, but I hope it doesn't spoil them. I'm perfectly happy knowing something is going to be produced and waiting months for it. I'm just happy that I know its coming and have plenty of time to save up for it too.

Re: The Hobby Master Takeover!!!!

I think HM is taking advantage of the vacuum created by Corgi, Dragon and Gemini Aces current hiatus. Make hay while the sun shines. They can alway slow down if needed if/when these other manufactures come back to the table. But keep in mind, a large part of HM's success has been bold subject choices the other manufactures declined to take a chance on.

I agree with leeG. No doubt overproducing is rife with peril, but if what I read about the coming world economic collapse is true, we’re far better off if Hobby Master continues their current production schedule—or even increases it!

I hate this gloom-and-doom stuff, but things are looking awfully grim. It’s only too possible that circumstances will shortly smash the diecast world.

Besides, Corgi will produce more models, but in the end the pooch will collapse. So will Witty. So will others. Maybe even HM itself. So I say Hobby Master should push balls to the wall while there's still time.

Go for it, Hobby Master!!!!

Re: The Hobby Master Takeover!!!!

My statement regarding the WWII dies was aimed directly at the Spitfire, Stuka, 109 Mustang and Thunderbolts of Corgi's recent history.

I couldn't disagree more with this statement as it pertains to Corgi's Stuka. It is still the best one on the market (at any scale) and an impressive piece by any standard whether the standard be 2002 or 2008.

Re: The Hobby Master Takeover!!!!

We thought that about 5 years ago but the company was Corgi and then, the deluge! Everybody and their bother started making planes and we were flooded and the dumps began. Some said that there were no planes left to make that would really sell that well. That was always doubtful, but what we were witnessing was collector burnout. Too many new molds and schemes in too short a time, and doom is imminent for collector's appetites and etailers warehouses. What we are seeing now is a crazy fast series of new molds and releases. Any faster and I'm gonna get a headache. We want this to go on and slowly. Patience and anticipation of new models make this a very fun hobby. IMO
I think HM is pushing the limit of what we can take. I know the F-104 is very popular but show me one that is sold out and hard to find, yet they keep pumping them out. I love HM but I much prefer the Century Wings schedule. What's wrong with it taking years to get the models we want as long as we have good reason to believe they're coming?

Some wise words there parsig,

Wallet burnout comes into the equation also for someof us. I find it difficult now to finance all these new releases.
The problem is that HM have turned out some real must have models and I am trying to keep up.
Any increase in production would leave me behind.

God Bless America.

Re: The Hobby Master Takeover!!!!

Agree! Hobby Master seems to be the only one actually considering input from it's customer base. The others definitely need to step up.

I haven't posted in ages. My collection figuratively hit the ceiling and I had no more space to carry on. Of course, true collectors find a way to make room for more when they're really motivated and I guess I wasn't. Corgi was my bread and butter, but after the Halifax they just seemed to stop shipping. And even that plane along with the Junkers shipped an eon after they ought to have. Are they still in business?

Now and then Hobby Master and Century Wings would put out an amazing item that would get me back on Flying Mule but those went in my closet storage. I couldn't bring myself to unpack them, knowing that once I had taken them out of their boxes, they'd never go back in as nicely as Corgi's. I think this has been another part of my reduced collecting (down from 10-20 planes a month to one every four months). Now I see HM making the models I've always wanted. The Kate, the BF110, the Helldiver and I want what I see. The box issue is holding me back. I just noticed a "premium collector" edition HM plane on Twin Plane, though. HM, this is exactly what I've been waiting for! Any plans to offer this packaging for more planes going forward? Am I alone in wanting to encourage this trend? I hope not, because it could get me buying like a fiend once more. : )

Sorry, but I believe the packaging you refer to is for the 1:32 SBD and it is better than the standard 1:72 boxes for sure -- but is just for the 1:32 line at the moment... HM could definitely improve in this regard, and I think it would help them with serious collectors such as yourself. Hopefully, they're listening.
