Re: How do you guys feel about generic models?

I like the idea. I am also putting in consideration that HM does the washes and inked panel lines on the models. A model with freshly painted insignias, walkways, signs of all sorts would contradict the wash and weathering that HM does for their models. Unless of one had the ability to apply them after applying the decals.

I would be able to get a set of all 6 Blue Angels if this were so! In this case, I'd be for it!

That's a good point. I'm neutral to generic models, but if there is demand for them from collectors, why not?

Generic models? A great idea, I think, especially for people who´d like to have aircraft from the former socialist countries from the 60´s or 70´s without camouflage. Just choose certain national markings and the tactical numbers. I would also like HM to re-do their German MiG-21 without any markings, I would surely find appropriate decals for that (which will surely be no West German Luftwaffe markings). But a MiG-23 like that would also be cool.

Not to big on the generic line of models. If going that route, rather just go with a kit.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

That's a big jump!

I'm surpised to hear this opinion from you, as you are a true collector and modelbuilder-since-childhooder like me.

Imagine getting a F2A from HM, masking the tail black, or blue, or green, and adding a fuselage band / number and wing chevron from a HQ decal sheet? That's just about all you'd have to do. Basically it's combining the best HM has to offer paired with your own hobby skills--fairly rudementary skills at that. Not only will you have a unique bird, but it would stand apart from plastic kits as it's diecast.

Here's a pic that has nothing to do with the topic but everything to do with F2A's.

With some of these interesting paint scheme options, kits are just a bit easier for me. Another reason I like the kit option is that I can usually get a canopy masking set for a specific kit I plan on building.
