Re: How do you guys feel about generic models?

I remember Flying Mule offered a blank Corgi B-24. It seems to have sold out so it must have been a success for them.

Re: How do you guys feel about generic models?

I don't really have any interest in "generic" models. But, good luck to those that are interested.

It could definitely work, depending on the size of the run and the choice of aircraft. I'd definitely snap up about a half-dozen HM F-104Cs with a plain silver/white paint scheme.

No for me on the generic models. I want my bird finished so I can break it out. (I'll gladly spend the time putting on landing gear and weapons, or putting it on a stand, but no decals or paint for me.)

Anything for a weird life.

Re: How do you guys feel about generic models?

This idea would work for planes like the World War 1 British SE5a. The RAF frowned on custom paint jobs, so generally the only distinguishing differences between aircraft were the unit and flight markings and the individual aircraft serial number and tactical code. You could sell a generic SE5a painted brown with roundels and rudder stripes applied. Provide a bunch of decals so the purchaser could make any body's plane they wanted by adding the appropriate unit symbol on the fuselage, serial number on the fin, individual aircraft code on the fuselage and wings, and individual flight's color wheel disk.

Re: How do you guys feel about generic models?

I have wanted in the past generic ground vehicles since to me all hummers look alike. Aircraft are a lot more variation to them. I would like to build my own squadron and I buy diecast since I can't build models so I think it would vary on decals and aircraft (ex: navy squadron with all different colours vs. USAF SEA camo or silver)

I think it would be a GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any basic flatcoat will allow decals to last quite a while, plus, its not uncommon to see service aircraft in their schemes without unit markings!!!!!!!

To me putting decals on planes is a chore.... these days its limited to the odd Dragon Fw190 but I can understand the appeal for those wanting a whole squadron of a particular plane.

That is true much more now than in the past. Many distinguishing crew pride/unit pride symbols have been painted over/removed IOT prevent tracking on the part of the enemy.

Don't do what BDE tells you to do. Do what BDE would want you to do.

Re: How do you guys feel about generic models?

I like the idea. I am also putting in consideration that HM does the washes and inked panel lines on the models. A model with freshly painted insignias, walkways, signs of all sorts would contradict the wash and weathering that HM does for their models. Unless of one had the ability to apply them after applying the decals.

I would be able to get a set of all 6 Blue Angels if this were so! In this case, I'd be for it!
