Re: Buffalo survives 2 foot fall

Good to hear the Buffalo is safe after the fall. You pretty much know how I feel about the Buffalo and would hate to see one get banged up.

Do you have any idea how I cringed when that baby took to the air (and floor) CC. Glass tables and free-rolling wheels do not mix. It's my 1st or 2nd fave F2A, right behind Ms. White Tail (Saratoga? Not sure).

Anyway I brought The Indestructable One to work, for switching out with the F2A in my cubicle office lineup. I very much enjoy entertaining an office guest whilst I pack up one plane and unpack another, including popping open the landing gear etc.

I have an MO. If any office visitor makes a comment on any of my planes, (currently: Eagles P-51C, HM F2A, HM DWD Spit, C1 Shields 'Cat, FM ATC C-47) then I pick up the plane and hand it to them. I tell them: "Here, check it out. Isn't it cool? Hold it here and here, sure it's heavy, and tough. Nah, under forty bucks. Yes, great model. I used to build 'em, too. Now I collect these-- pure joy. New ones come out each year. You should get the Mustang!"

Hornchurch, if I'd take that awesome B-24 with me, I would be thrown out of the place ala Felix Unger in the Odd Couple!

In my young days (1977) I took my Monogram Hurri to the shower... NOT KIDDING... was shocked to see the decals come off...

In college I built 50 1/48s in my senior year, 1986/87... brought them all home in 2 big cardboard boxes w/ tons of foam popcorn to keep the planes intact. This, on a greyhound bus on a 3 hour trip from North Adams to Concord, MA... Mom was like, "you said the money was for necessary expenses" "Well, yeah,,,"

Testors Val, Monogram SB2C, Otaki EVERYTHING, Nichimo Sonia, Jake and Kate, all my old Monogram and Revell friends, including 6 Spitfires of unique mark (tough to find in '86!). Also a prized Do 335, of which the market value was over $100 if you could find one... mine was found in a friend's attic.

Re: Buffalo survives 2 foot fall

Glad the Buffalo had made it out ok. I have the same one also and it's a beaut. My Corgi He-111 Hindenburg fell off a 6 foot shelve 2 years ago and nothing happened either. Guess the Die-cast Gods are watching over us afterall.

Re: Buffalo survives 2 foot fall

Falls from desks are one thing, but relatives are another. I learned the hard way one day when Mom came for a visit and proclaimed she "saved me a lot of time" by dusting all my diecast. That was sevreal months ago and I am still combing the carpet for propellers, pitot tubes, and missiles. The bottle of CA got a workout.

Re: Buffalo survives 2 foot fall

Hi Guys,

Just came back from a vacation with a story to tell. I posted this thread on another site but had it moved to here as I know y'all a bit better and don't want to post it twice.

I brought one of my HM Buffalos on vacation with me and the wife, so as to have a bit of home in the rented condo in the seaport town of Ogunquit, Maine. I kept HA7005 USS , Lexington 2-F-16 close at hand as it's a beautiful model. It's also out of print and looks quite nice with its yellow wings and yellow cowl, fuselage, and wing stripes.

The I did a bad thing. I had the plane on my night stand near my bed and went to shut the light off. I tilted the table a bit to reach the lampstalk lightswitch and bam! the Buffalo took a very loud 2 foot diver to the floor.

Nothing broke. NOTHING, no bent props, no disjoined canopy, no farged landing gear or bent pitot tube. The bombs didn't even drop off!

What a machine!

Lucky guy. If I tried to bring any diecast with me on a vacation they'd either make a "water landing" (read: thrown into whatever body of water is nearby) or "flight tested" (read: thrown off of the balcony of whatever location we stay at - no matter the height). I would be receiving a healthy dose of pain, too. And sleeping on the couch and/or floor, with a pillow if I'm lucky

That's one tough Hobby Master bird you've got there. If I did that to my little 1:72 Buffalo by IXO it'd probably split into two along the seams and/or dirty the carpet (what with the oil treatment).

Re: Buffalo survives 2 foot fall

Yes^^^^^, and a very nice Hellcat. Lots of heft, a very nice model. Would not have survived the fall the Buffalo took, hopefully I'll never have to prove this!
