Thumbs up F-4 on Witty's F-14 stand

I think it was PappyB or somebody who first tried the Tomcat Witty stand on the F-4 and I think its much better than the standard Hobby Master one. It lets you display the aircraft in flight with the centreline fuel tank and also a few variations of bank angles. I always like to see the aircrafts flying with the centreline tank. Especially with the F-4. It just makes it look more bad-ass to me.
I hate having to compromise the centreline tanks for the display stands. I even like the way Century Wings made the option to display inflight with centreline tank by making the stand go through it.

I took some quick photos. Sorry about the lighting. If the weekend is clear, i may find some time to take better ones.

Those photos look great Andrew. The Witty stands are so versatile. Hopefully the other manufacturers follow Witty's lead with their stands too someday!

I think I might have to pick up a few of these. How good does the model sit with these stands, is it sturdy?

Re: F-4 on Witty's F-14 stand

You may need to fiddle with the setting of the clamp -- how tight to make it... for a bit. But once you get it right it holds it pretty securely -- not as securely perhaps as the Witty model it's meant for, but it does the job. I've had my Ritchie in the Tomcat stand for over a month now with no "crash and burns".

However, proceed with caution.. I did have a few "misshaps" when I was first trying it out. I got a bit aggressive with the bank angle and didn't have the fit tight enough to hold it. Thanfully, the Phantom is a tough bird.

Re: F-4 on Witty's F-14 stand

Just a question about this model. According to the review at HMC, this particular Phantom has bombs - are the same Snakeyes from the Steve Ritchie's F-4?

Re: F-4 on Witty's F-14 stand

Looks great! I need to pick up a stand or two!

Has anyone tried the following:

HM F-104 in the Witty F-104 stand?

DM F-15 in the Witty F-15 stand?

DM F-16 in the Witty F-16 stand?

CW F-14 in Witty F-14 stand?

I am curious to see how these combos have worked...

Re: F-4 on Witty's F-14 stand

Raven,
I use the witty stands for my HM F-105's and CW F-14, but both required a small abount of sanding to get the model to seat properly.

I have found that Dragon F-16's work really well on Witty stands. It's particularly sweet since the F-16 has only one engine, you can turn it at a pretty high angle of bank and it'll hold pretty securely.

I'm pretty confident with how it sits here (ignore the missing nose probe and weapons loadout. It's a work in progress)

Also, Dragon F/A-18's work with Witty 18 stands. I'm confident that Witty stands will work with just about all corresponding planes from different companies. I can't say for sure, but it's worked for the several different versions I own.
