Re: HM Interview

Actually, there isn't much wire on a D.VII except control cables. It was rather advanced for its time. More puzzling then as to why it hasn't been done.

I'm a big WW 1 fan, and would love to see more of these airplanes modeled. My 1/48 scale collecting was limited to only WW 1 until HM came out with their pre-war F3F and F2A. I really like both the "Golden Age" and WW 1 genre. I sure I will be delighted with whatever HM decides is in their best interests to produce.

Yep, Fokker D VII would make for a fine looking model (and much needed).

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: HM Interview

Frankly, the Hakwer Fury project was recommended and initiated by the UK side in 1/48. We thought that we might be able to develop a nice line up of aircrafts of the "Golden Age of Aviation" (in same scale). I have also considered doingt a "Spirit of St Louis" but no feedback is yet heard from US side.

Interesting! Can you do this tooling with only one livery/release? Regardless, I would, without question, buy it!

2) to develop a separate series labelled "pre-war" or "golden age of aviation" (2 -3 molds per year) while retaining the normal development of 1/48 (3-5 molds per year).

I think this is a terrific idea! I would collect from both lines! I am not at all opposed to a "golden age of aviation" line, for I love the era. As a 1:48 collector, it would be fun for me to grow a collection of pre-war and war types! It would also be very exciting to have 5-8 new molds each year. Yes! Yes!

3) I apologize this idea has aroused some conflicts between all friendly collectors

Not your fault at all. Don't worry, we all eventually kiss and make up.

Re: HM Interview

William,
I think a series from the "golden age" of aviation (1920's -30's) is a splendid idea-- Lots of historic, colorful and trend-setting aircraft.

Re: HM Interview

I'll chime in on the "Golden Age" concept in 1:48 ! Could definitely see a couple new shelves in my house for the effort.....Of course, the Fokker DVII needs to be done first to show us what HM can do with lozenge camo!!!!!

Re: HM Interview

I would also buy a 1:48 Spirit of St Louis. It is a must have. William, please keep the yellow wings pre war plane coming. I will buy all of them, no matter of scale.

Re: HM Interview

Just occurred to me: Why hasn't anyone done the Mirage III in 1/72 yet? ('twould be an ideal openning for HM.) Or have I missed something?

I asked this question before (since FM version is barely passable), and William's response was that is a licensing issue, but no specifics beyond that.

Regards,

Sergey

Re: HM Interview

I don't understand the ridiculing of HM for proposing to issue the Hawker Fury since it represents the ultimate in 1930's fighter biplane design and spawned a variety of versions such as the Audax, Hind, Nimrod (with/without floats) etc. Many years ago, I acquired a 1/48 scale model of one made from a plastic kit by a master-modeller in trade for an autograph of Otto Skorzeni, the SS Colonel who rescued Mussolini from his mountain top prison. In spite of my addiction to 1/72 scale die-casts, the Fury sits in regal splendour on display in my book case.I was introduced to Skorzeni by a former Battle of Britain pilot who flew with Bader's squadron. He had retired in Spain and overheard my colleague (a retired USN officer who commanded a ship off Korea during that war) and I discussing aviation in a hotel bar in Madrid. He asked to join in our conversation and on a subsequent visit to Madrid, he offered to set up a dinner with Skorzeni. Naturally, we jumped at the opportunity and spent several hours talking about his military career. He denied all connections with the infamous Nazi escape pipe-line to Brazil, though it was common gossip that he was the leader at the time. Several weeks later, I received a plain brown envelope mailed from Brazil containing a magazine article about him which he had autographed to me.What impressed me was, when we arrived at the restaurant, the entire all-male waiting staff formed two ranks on the sidewalk and, as we walked in between them, clicked their heels and bowed German style. Needless to say, we had the best table and superb service.
