Official Request for the Douglas Skyraider

I’d like to officially request that Hobby Master produce the Douglas Skyraider. William, if you’re reading this, I can think of a number of reasons why this particular warbird would sell like hot cakes:

1) MHII members have expressed unbounded enthusiasm for this ship.

2) It allows for both Navy and Air Force liveries.

3) The plane was produced in several variants, including the A-1H, the AD-5 and AEW Mk1.

4) It served in Korea and Vietnam both, which widens its appeal.

5) It would compliment your coming F-8 and F-100, not to mention your preeminent F-4 models.

6) The Skyraider served in several Air Forces, including the USAF, the US Navy, the South Vietnamese Air Force, and Royal Air Force, accommodating even more livery choices.

7) Hobby Master is now recognized by many as the premiere diecast model manufacturer. Producing a top-quality Skyraider would further enhance this deserved reputation.

I for one would purchase every single Skyraider Hobby Master produced. And I’m sure I’m not the only one. The Skyraider was something of a truck, but she hauled mind-boggling tons of ordinance and dropped it accurately on enemy heads. She’s an iconic warbird that captures the spirit and times of a very dramatic, if not extremely unpopular, war.

Thanks for your consideration.

Re: Official Request for the Douglas Skyraider

Gemini is already a good ways down the Skyraider road though they seem to be taking a break from producing the Aces line at the moment.

Re: Official Request for the Douglas Skyraider

The Skyraider NEVER served with the RAF. It was the Airborne Early Warning type component of the ROYAL NAVY'S FLEET AIR ARM, serving with 849 Squadon as Detachments on British carriers. It was eventually superceeded by the Gannet AEW3 twin turbo-prop.

Oops! You’re right, JETFAN. My mistake. Either way, RAF or Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm, it still offers Hobby Master another type and livery to replicate.

This is the first i've heard that HM are releasing an F-8. Are you sure you don't have HM mixed up with CW?

I also realy want a Spad but happy to wait a bit longer for Gemini's, based on their track record with 1/72 aircraft to date. Just wish they'd pick up the pace though. I would sooner HM concentrate on the Thud, F-5 and a few other prop aircraft like the Black Widow.

That's my 5c worth!

Take it out and play with it

Oh, for the love of Mike! Did I make a SECOND MISTAKE???? Yep, looks Iike it: that’s a CENTURY WINGS F-8, not a Hobby Master F-8.

OK, Hobby Master, you’ve got your marching orders: Along with that Skyraider, make an F-8, too. Otherwise, Gort’s going to look awfully STOOOPID!

Hi Gort,

We have pondered about making an A-1 Skyraider last year. We brought this project to a halt because Gemini had proclaimed to make this. I personally don't know about their progress but probably we don't want to duplicate with things that other companies are doing.

But if Gemini decided not to pick this one up, HM probably will be very interested in the subject.

William You need to reconsider the A-1 Skyraider. The Gemini A-1 prepro pictures are of one that I wouldn't buy. I don't want a Anti Sub A-1 or what ever you may call it.

Re: Official Request for the Douglas Skyraider

I think you should definitely do a Skyraider. in my opinion you can do a better job than Gemini and you can do it at a lower price.
