Re: Official Request for the Douglas Skyraider

I think Hobby Master is wise to wait and see what Gemini does with the Skyraider. There are just too many models that still need to be done to squander resources on needless duplication.

I have to agree. With a GA Skyraider in the works, it makes more sense for HM to tackle other airplanes. (Say, the Val or, I dunno, the MC.202.) The three GA planes that have been released so far have gotten good reviews, and hopefully their Skyraider releases will be up to par. I mean, their real Skyraider releases, not that plug-ugly RN AEW version. Yeech.

Now, if GA pulls back and doesn't release the Skyraider then, please, HM, go for it!

Yes, like an F-111, for example.

Absolutely. GA knows how well a Skyraider will sell, and the AEW version will not be the only version that they make.
Now, if the GA models turn out to be a total letdown, then I'm all for HM taking a stab at the Skyraiders.

Re: Official Request for the Douglas Skyraider

Hi Gort,

We have pondered about making an A-1 Skyraider last year. We brought this project to a halt because Gemini had proclaimed to make this. I personally don't know about their progress but probably we don't want to duplicate with things that other companies are doing.

But if Gemini decided not to pick this one up, HM probably will be very interested in the subject.

William,

Thanks for your reply, and I appreciate Hobby Master’s stratagem. I happen to agree—mostly. Your wait-‘n’-see approach to Gemini’s Skyraider is sensible.

However, Hobby Master may wish to reconsider. Here’s why ...

One: Many collectors (including yours truly) consider Hobby Master the best diecast manufacturer in the business. Your singular attention to detail, quality and getting it right are superlative; which, predictably, inspires strong collector loyalty and consequent sales, duplicate models notwithstanding.

Two: Hobby Master already has produced duplicate models: 1) Matchbox produced the Hellcat; Hobby Master followed; 2) IXO produced the Ju-87D; Hobby Master issued their own; and 3), Corgi produced the Phantom F-4; Hobby Master did likewise.

Three: Coupled with powerful customer support, duplication is a non-issue. Case in point: Despite the fact Corgi’s F-4 has been around for years, Hobby Master’s Triple Nickle Phantom became a genuine over-night sensation. So did their second Navy issue. I’m only too sure a Hobby Master Skyraider would generate similar robust sales even if Gemini produced their own.

Four: To date, Gemini hasn’t issued their Skyraider, nor does anybody know when—or even if—they will. The field, then, is still wide open; if Hobby Master moves quickly, they could very well produce the first diecast Skyraider.

I hope I haven’t overstated my point, but you get the picture. Collectors are wildly enthusiastic about Hobby Master. Given a choice between a Hobby Master or some other manufacturer's model, I’d chose HM in a heartbeat, as would many others.

Make the Skyraider, William, please. We’re already line up to buy it!

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Totally agree with Gort on all points! Please William......I'll promise right now I won't buy a Gemini Skyraider in order to buy the HM version (Lord knows I won't be missing out after seeing the abomination in the previous photos)! Oh yeah, since we're pressing, how's about a 1/48 ane/or a 1/32 scale Skyraider?

Thanks!!!!

Re: Official Request for the Douglas Skyraider

Nicely said Gort, HM should not be afraid of duplication because they simply make better models.
