the oily residue i believe is so supposed to sometimes keep metal clean of rust and keep it from being dirty,

As often as I dust, my models would be grimy oil pits if I didn't clean the oil off! Hey... wait a minute, might just add the touch of realism and detail I have been lookin' for in an HM 1:48 model!

Hi,

The oil, as I am informed, is some kind of "silicon oil". There is a "whitening effect" when you use super-glue. Hence, the oil is to prevent such "whitening" when we glue the parts together. It is harmless and approved.
