Suggestions For Hobby Master's First Two Soviet Molds

HM's William has given us reason to hope that his company might put out one or possibly two Soviet warbirds in the near future. He also stated that he regards the 1:48th scale as primarily for U.S. collectors, while 1:72nd is better for world wide sales. So, with this in mind, what three Soviet warbirds from WWII or the Cold War era ( 1045-1989 ) would you recommend in order of preference. Please don't give us long, rambling wish lists, guys. They don't really help. Also, let's be realistic. I doubt that HM would seriously consider a 1:72nd scale "Bison" or "Bear".

OK. To get things started, my three choices are:

1) LA5FN
2) IL-2 ( two-seater )
3) PE-2

I especially like the LA5FN since one might also get a LA-7 out of the same basic mold by modifying the engine and cowling areas.

Re: Suggestions For Hobby Master's First Two Soviet Molds

Here are my three choices:

1) Ilyushin Il-2 (especially the Il-2m3)
2) Petlyakov Pe-2 (the Pe-2FT would probably be the most logical choice)
3) Lavochin La-5FN (for the same reasons as Epapazian - later Lavochkins are possible with minor alterations to the mold)

1:48:

I-16 (that might be a tad difficult due to many versions)

I-153

1:72:

Pe-2 (Pe-3 if modifications to the mold are possible).

IL-2, but I would like to see single seater.

La-5FN

Regards,

Sergey

Re: Suggestions For Hobby Master's First Two Soviet Molds

Lots of neat choices to go with. My choices would look something like this:

1/48th scale
1. Polikarpov I-16
2. Polikarpov I-153

1/72nd scale
1. Lavochin La-5FN
2. Petlyakov Pe-2
3. Lavochin LaGG-3

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Suggestions For Hobby Master's First Two Soviet Molds

Hasn't William hinted around at an I-16...? I'm down with that, and let's add a MiG-3 and IL-2 and/or I-153.

And, of course, my preference is always 1:72.

For 1/48:

I-16 type 24
MiG-3 later type
La-7 two-cannon version.

For 1/72:

Pe-2 series 110 or later
LaGG-3 any series
La-5FN

I have to mention the MiG-15 as well, in 1/72

Re: Suggestions For Hobby Master's First Two Soviet Molds

For the cold war era, I'd recommend the MiG-25. Probably the most significant cold war fighter based on all the fear and hysteria it produced. To a large extent, the F-15 was the result of that hysteria. Could easily get 4 Soviet, 1 Indian, 1 Algerian & 1 Armenian paint schemes.
