Re: Suggestions For Hobby Master's First Two Soviet Molds

IL-2 seems to be very popular.

Let's put it this way, William - if your company announced that they are to going to manufacture their own Il-2 line, my IXO Il-2 would be gone in as much time as it takes me to toss it in its box and throw it out the window.

IL-2 in 1/72 and I-16 in 1/48

William, I think many of us feel the same way.

Re: Suggestions For Hobby Master's First Two Soviet Molds

Lots of neat choices to go with. My choices would look something like this:

1/48th scale
1. Polikarpov I-16
2. Polikarpov I-153

1/72nd scale
1. Lavochin La-5FN
2. Petlyakov Pe-2
3. Lavochin LaGG-3

Sounds quite sensible to me CC. Especially the Polykarpovs 1-16/ 1-153.

Re: Suggestions For Hobby Master's First Two Soviet Molds

1. Su-24 Fencer. It has swing-wings. Swing-wings are cool and sell well. (though I might be the only Su-24 fan on the board)
2. MiG-25. We need more MiG's besides the -21 and -29.
3. Su-15 Flagon. Even sleeker-looking than an F-8, and that's saying something.

(all in 1/72)

You are definitely not the only Su-24 fan here. I'd actually prefer the Su-24 over the MiG-25 but couldn't think of 6 to 8 different paint schemes for them.

Re: Suggestions For Hobby Master's First Two Soviet Molds

For WWII IL-2 for obvious reasons
Modern has to be the Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot (the Warsaw Pact's A-10)...lots of liveries!

Those two would be impressive looking in 1/48th scale. Just something neat about the I-153, a biplane with retractable landing gear and gull wing. I would be first in line for either one of these two.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Suggestions For Hobby Master's First Two Soviet Molds

There's not going to be 6-8 schemes for most "Soviet" jets, except the two newest main fighters, the Flanker and Fulcrum. One big well-selling run should be enough, as opposed to many small runs.

Gemini Jets has very few schemes for their Concorde--but the sales of the 2 main schemes alone paid for the mold. I think their British Airways Concorde outsells entire other mold's total runs combined. It's constantly re-run and re-released, and keeps selling out.

Kind of like the SR-71. While I've posted some variants, they really only need to do 1 SR-71. They'd sell a trillion of just the basic scheme. Could re-release that scheme 4 times and probably still sell it out. One REALLY well-selling scheme could justify a mold. Same for the F-22.
