Kate Attacks DiecastAce Field at Dawn!

I was startled awake this morning by the sound of the long-dormant flak batteries at DiecastAce Field peppering the sky... and the steady drone of an incoming enemy plane coming in for a sneak attack. Thankfully, a MB Hellcat on early morning CAP was hot on its tail.

I signaled for the flak batteries to stop firing and radioed the Hellcat to "force 'er down", which the skilled pilot (V-something-or-other) managed to do. Seems the Japanese crew figures were a bit too small for their seats and thus couldn't see adequately enough to do their jobs!

A full inspection of the captured aircraft -- a 1:72 Kate bomber -- which we've never seen before is forthcoming, as well as full-access to the classified photos.

Here is a photo of the Kate right before it was forced down.

The best thing about finally having a Kate in 1:72.... something a bit more "meaty" for those Hellcats and Corsairs to chase!

(The DiecastAce hopes you've enjoyed this attempt at Monday morning zinc humor, which has likely been brought on by an overload of cold medicines.)

To be continued....

Cool pic Steve! Can't wait to get this thing and you are absolutely correct about having something more meaty for our U.S. and allied PTO aircraft to go after!!

Neat pic pappy!
No wonder the Kate was easily forced down, it has a 12 yr old pilot! Shoot, that kid can't even see over the instrument panel, it is a wonder he was even able to take off.
(just kidding of course, but the pilot does look a little "low" )

Yeah, though in all fairness I don't have 'em seated properly either... since they are so small they slide all over the place when you move the model and it's a right pain to get 'em to stay put and look decent. A bit of glue and/or some 1:72 phonebooks will be required I think.

No problem there, I am just happy to see pilots!
I will anxiously await the rest of the pics and your review.

That is a Matchbox Vraciu Hellcat (currently my ownly Hellcat) on a Dragon stand that I modified to fit it -- holds the model up higher and looks better than those silly MB stands I think. All you need to do is sand the dragon peg a bit and it will slide right into the slot on the MB models and hold 'em very securely.

Thanks for the info on the Dragon stands, will have to try it. The pic had me confused for a bit as I figured out it was a MB Hellcat but the stand threw me off.
