Kates and Pearl Harbor

Did anyone see the History Channel special regarding the attack on the Arizona at Pearl? The Kate was featured as the big weapon the japanese used to sink the US battleships; the Arizona was actually sunk by a high level bomb dropped by a Kate.

There was an interesting segment on the development of the bomb dropped by the kate; it was a modified naval shell that weighed approximately one ton. The bomb looks identical to the one carried by the first HM Kate release.

After watching the special it appears to me HM has done an excellent job of replicating the Kate and its armament.

Re: Kates and Pearl Harbor

Cool insights, I remember seeing a History Channel program where they had to modify the torpedoes using some wooden arrangement at the back to adapt them for use in the attack on Pearl Harbour.

Re: Kates and Pearl Harbor

You are absolutely correct; the Japanese perfected a torpedo for the shallow waters of Pearl. The wooden fins of the torpedo would fall off after the fish was on its way thus keeping it at the correct depth.
