Re: Your #1 pick for Cold War ASW Aircraft

Stoof; ie S2F-1 or to the younger fraternity Tracker. Lots of color schemes, folding wings, wide variety of weapons etc and served with many countries. The S-3A Viking barely qualifies for Cold War warrior status as it didn't enter service until, I think 1974. I remember seeing the first aircraft in Vs-41 colors before the unit was "Stood up" at North Island. At the time, N.I. had ramps full of Trackers and P2V-7s. Being Saturday, the Transient ramp had a great assortment of USN and USAF types lined up. Parked on a seaplane ramp were several Marlins that had just been withdrawn from service. Why do I remember this? My escort was a beautiful young WAVE Ensign from the base PAO who had no difficulty getting us access to everything.
