Re: 1/72 Arado 196 Floatplane - future Hobby Master release?

Found some neat Arado Ar 196 shots.

Single float variant (Think only two of these were made)

Wings folded and beaching gear.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Oh yes make it so William, I think float planes and sea planes have been woefully neglected by all manufactures. They just seem to tease us with one here or there. An Arado 196 float plane would be great.

Re: 1/72 Arado 196 Floatplane - future Hobby Master release?

I would love to see this, however a twin float model would pose some real challenges for HM's designers. I know that the Arado Ar.196 was also built (in small numbers) in a single float configuration, but the twin float version is how most of us know this plane.
If HM were to consider the float plane genre, I would think they might start with single float planes such as the Japanese Rufe----which would also allow them to put out a decent Zeke---as well as a Pete, or a U.S. entry, such as the Kingfisher. I believe that many of us would welcome these also.

I wouldn't agree that a dual float configuration would be more challenging than a single float plane. On a dual float configuration, the floats are fixed, nothing moves and there is, of course, no landing gear to deal with. The floats would probably be mirror images of each other.

On a single float configuration, there's actually THREE floats to deal with - the center one and the one out on the end of each wing, and of course all the little struts holding all three floats in place. And if they did a plane where the wing floats retracted (like on Corgi's PBY Catalina), and HM wanted them to move, then the complications go way up!

I'd love to see a two-float Arado Ar-196 from HM. By golly, if Corgi can do a 2-float configuration for just one of their Fairey Swordfish, I'd think HobbyMaster should have no problem with a whole line of floaters.

That and twin float aircraft are bit easier to dispaly minus a stand. Wouldn't mind some float planes with a single float, but just with some proper beaching gear.

Who made the plastic kit of the Arado? Airfix, who made the kit of the Kingfisher? Airfix, who made the kit of the Grumman Duck? Airfix ,who owns Airfix and their research? Hornby who now own Corgi .Who would sound like the ideal maker for these?

A few companies put out kits of the Arado Ar 196. In 1/72nd Heller, Airfix, Matchbox, Revell and Encore. In 1/48th scale it seems that HiPM puts out one in that scale. As far as the Kingfisher goes, in 1/72nd scale Airfix and Lindberge with Monogram putting out one in 1/48th scale. Grumman Duck was done by Airfix in 1/72nd and in 148th scale by Glencoe & Classic Airframes.

Need one of those in diecast. Twin floats would make it easy to display with out a stand.
