Re: 1/72 Arado 196 Floatplane - future Hobby Master release?

I rarely say this but would you guys mind keeping this thread on track - it's about the merits of getting a diecast Arado 196 floatplane and convincing potential manufacturers that this is a good idea .

(No problem with going off on a tangent and pursuing your own 'flights of fancy' but try not to 'dilute' this thread with your particular 'wishlists' - start your own if need be ... .)

Yep, best to get back on track. I have a wood ID model of the Ar 196, but sure would like to have one in diecast. It is a good looking float plane, and if you take into consideration some of the minor axis allies, has a variety of paint schemes to work with. This would be one of my top choices for a WWII float plane and would be neat in either 1/72nd or 1/48th scale.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Ooops!

Yes an Arado 196 would be very meritorious indeed,

Could we have the Bismark one first?

it would make a nice pairing with the Swordfish floatplane dont you think?

A very nice pairing indeed!!!

(Also, as Cruver Collector mentioned, 1/48 scale would be very welcome .)

Rumanian or Bulgarian version would be neat to see modeled (Like to see more of some of the minor Axis powers).

I'd like to see the Arado float plane off of Prinz Eugen. It used to be on display at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station which was close to my house when I was as a kid .

Thumbs down Re: 1/72 Arado 196 Floatplane - future Hobby Master release?

On the merits of the 126. No! Not well known in enough war time operations to and not cool looking enough. Only thing going for it is, it was used on German ships that got sunk. Many other float planes should come first. Kingfisher amoung them.

Something could be made for the argument that it served on the Admiral Graf Spee, Deutschland, Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, Admiral Scheer, Admiral Hipper and Prinz Eugen. The capture of the HMS Seal is also an interesting bit of history associated with the Ar 196, and it did play a significant role in maritime reconnaissance for the Axis.

Was that HMS Seal or HMS Shark? I thought it was the HMS Shark but stand corrected.
