Re: Devastating Devastators!

One thing for sure is that there are enough liveries to justify for the development of this plane and this plane itself is special enough for the development.

Good enough for me. Sounds like even if it doesn't happen this year we are likely to get one down the road. I vote for 1/72 but I wouldn't turn down a 1/48.

Re: Devastating Devastators!

Hi,

To promise anything too early is risky sometimes, but HM has considered this plane for a long time. Our target is around 6 new molds for 1/72 each year. So we still have a few choices for this year.

One thing for sure is that there are enough liveries to justify for the development of this plane and this plane itself is special enough for the development.

This one would be neat in 1/72nd scale. It would compliment the Kate that should be out soon. (Be neat to have both in same scale sitting side by side).

Re: Devastating Devastators!

I was just looking at some scale drawings, and the TBD is as big as the SB2C. The fuselage is sleeker and a foot and a half or so shorter, but they have essentially the same span and identical wing area. The TBD would be an impressive chunk of metal, and I hope HM gets around to making it. I see I'll need to reserve a little more shelf space than I had originally thought!

...........................TBD-1......TBF-1C......SBD-3......SB2C-1C
Length..................35' 0"....... 40' 9"........ 32' 8".........36' 9"
Height..................15' 1"........13' 9".........13' 7"..........14' 9"
Span....................50' 0"........54' 2".........41' 6"..........49' 9"
Wing Area ft^2......422...........490...........325..............422

Re: Devastating Devastators!

That is a very historic photo. I believe that is a photo of T-5 of Torpedo 8. Torpedo 8 was the squadron that was completely wiped out at Midway, with only one pilot surviving to be rescued. I think the photo is a still taken from a film of Torpedo 8 which was made just before or on the day of the battle. Seeing that T-5 is loaded with a torpedo, I feel it is a shot of T-5 taking off from the USS Hornet on its fateful June 4th mission, never to return. Some of the film was taken on the morning of June 4th as Torpedo 8 took off on its historic mission.

My vote goes with 1/72, I dont have space for the bigger scales, and yes it would look great alongside the Kate.

With the HM Kate, think a 1/72nd Devastor would be a great choice. I would want at least one torpedo bomber and level bomber variant, maybe more.

Let's Here It For A Devastator!

I hope HM makes a Devastator next! I really like this aircraft because it was flown when it wasn't clear that the United States would win the war against Japan. Here are my three Monogram 1/48 scale Devastators:

Re: Devastating Devastators!

Nice stuff, lanslide. Try to keep those pic sizes down though, it's a killer download when you lump 'em together like that.
