Re: Devastating Devastators!

Think Navair has option for folding wing, any help in comparing to the old Airfix kit. Only Devastor I have ever made was in 1/48th scale.

Yup - the old original MPC kit has folding wings, raised panel lines, and BIG rivet detail!

Re: Devastating Devastators!

I had the old Airfix kit of this plane and I remember it as being a pretty good model. They got the "sheet metal" ribbing of the wings if I remember correctly. Didn't Monogram make one in 1:48th scale? I seem to recall it had prewar colors.

Personally, I'd buy a couple if HM would just make it in 1:72nd scale.

This site has a pretty good review on the Valom Devastor kit.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Devastating Devastators!

A little more research reveals that the MPC kit is a reboxing of the original old Airfix kit.

Re: Devastating Devastators!

Cruves, I think the Navair one may be the same mold as the old Airfix is of the old MPC one but I might have that wrong.

There isn't really a top-notch kit of a Devastator in 1/72. The Airfix isn't that bad considering when it was made. The MPC and Navair are simply the Airfix kits in different packaging. The Valom kit isn't bad, but could be improved upon. Each of them can be considerably improved with aftermarket resin and photoetch. In 1/48, we have the Monogram kit, which is currently the best available. It is not up to the quality of current 1/48 releases. However, the one I am waiting for is the announced Trumpeter 1/32 TBD Devastator. I cannot wait for that to be released. It should be good-- in fact, it should be the best TBD available, based on their past releases of 1/32 USN aircraft, like their SBD and TBF. Maybe HM could use the Trumpeter TBD to make a 1/32 diecast Devastator as they did with the SBD, using the Trumpeter kit as a pattern. A 1/32 TBD from HM-- now we're talking!!

That would be a hefty model, probably looking at a wing span of 18 3/4 inches to it. Look neat, but prefer something in 1/72nd scale on this one. (Go good next to their Kate).

Re: Devastating Devastators!

Yes......I would love to have a few of these.
But please don't use the folding wings.

Did someone say 1/48? Did someone say TBD? Did someone say Hobby Master?

That's all I gotta say. I would buy 5 in 1/48, and yes a wing fold mechanism would be EZ to do!

Re: Devastating Devastators!

I'd love to see a Devastator, but I'm hoping that it would be 1/72 scale. They would go nicely alongside my Dauntlesses.

If Hobby Master produces a Devastator, please include a tail gun and not a close canopy. If there is one (small) problem I have with my Dauntlesses, it;s the lack of tail gunner.

Anything for a weird life.

Definitely would want to display with both front and rear canopies in the open position (Kind of looks better that way.).
