Re: How about a TBD Devastator?

I would buy a 1/72 scale Pre-war, Coral Sea, and Midway version of the TBD in a heart beat! I would probably get one 1/48 scale model too.

Re: How about a TBD Devastator?

Count me in for 1/72 TBD, SBU, Val, and Kate.

The Battle of Midway is very interesting to study, maybe because at that time we were closely matched and it could have gone either way. I also recommend the reading "The Shattered Sword".

Ditto for me RonO would love to see HM do these birds besides my Dauntless and Avenger need company!

Me too but don't forget the SB2C Helldiver!

Leigh-Mallory and his big wings! Might as well stay on the ground for all the use they are!

...SB2U Vindicator. I think RonO meant SB2U not SBU although the SBU Corsair was a nice looking pre-war bi-plane!

Re: How about a TBD Devastator?

I have often in the past lobbied for both a Devastator and a Helldiver ( and a Swordfish.... ).
I would buy them in 1:48 for my collection, minimum one of each, possibly more. They would be great models !!
I would also buy them in a heartbeat in 1:72 as a gift for my brother for his WWII 1/72 collection.

Devastating Devastators!

Well, they were not too devastating but they were the first American naval monoplane. They took part in the most important WWII naval engagements against the Japanese when the United States turned the war around during the battles of The Coral Sea and Midway. I really want some 1/72 scale TBD Devastators to add to my collection of WWII American naval aircraft that includes the Dauntless, Avenger, Wildcat, Hellcat, and Corsair. Soon HM will produce the Helldiver too!

Re: Devastating Devastators!

Devastor would be a great choice. They also saw some combat in the Marshalls in early 1942 during the opening stages of the war. I would like to have at least a couple in pre war paint scheme and 4 or 5 in the war colors. (One for each of the Midway carriers might be nice.).

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Devastating Devastators!

I've always felt that the TBD got a bum rap because of its poor showing at the Battle Of Midway. The U.S.Navy sent these slow, lumbering, torpedo-laden aircraft in to attack the Japanese fleet with token air cover and, as I recall accounts of the battle, the F4F escort didn't show up. The TBDs never stood a chance facing murderous AA fire and nimble Zeros. So bring on the TBDs. I'll buy a bunch of 'em.
